Job summary

Barclays is seeking a Software Engineering Lead in Pune to drive design, development and modernization of enterprise data platforms. You will lead REST APIs, microservices, API gateways, event-driven architectures, cloud-native engineering, CI/CD and DevSecOps while promoting security, observability and engineering best practices.

  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Job description

Join us as a Software Engineering Lead at Barclays where you will - Lead the design, development, and modernization of enterprise data platforms, with a strong focus on REST APIs, Microservices Architecture, API Gateways & API Management Platforms, Event-driven Architecture, Cloud-native Engineering, CI/CD and DevSecOps, Application Security and Observability & SRE practices. Collaborate with business, architecture, and engineering teams to deliver strategic data transformation initiatives while promoting engineering best practices, automation, and cloud adoption.

To be successful as a Software Engineering Lead, you should have experience with:

  • Strong experience leading enterprise-scale API and integration platforms.

  • Proven experience delivering customer-facing digital and enterprise API solutions in a highly regulated environment.

  • Deep expertise in: REST APIs, Microservices Architecture, API Gateways & API Management Platforms, Event-driven Architecture, Cloud-native Engineering, CI/CD and DevSecOps, Application Security, Observability & SRE practices

  • Strong knowledge of Java/Spring ecosystem, container platforms, middleware technologies, and distributed systems.

  • Experience leading Agile delivery at Tribe, Journey, or large-scale product teams.

  • Demonstrated success managing technology risk, operational resilience, and regulatory compliance.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and executive communication skills.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Banking, Payments, Consumer Lending, Deposits, Cards, or Financial Services experience.

  • Experience operating within large-scale Agile or SAFe delivery models.

  • Exposure to API monetization, Open Banking, partner ecosystem integrations, and digital platform transformation.

  • Experience with cloud transformation and AI-enabled engineering practices.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
