Job summary

Barclays in Pune seeks a Senior Software Engineer to design, build and optimize scalable infrastructure and deployment pipelines. You will leverage Java/.NET, Python and cloud technologies to deliver secure, enterprise-grade platforms across the organisation.

You will lead cross‑functional delivery, implement CI/CD, mentor engineers, and uphold secure coding practices while collaborating with product managers and operations to ensure reliable performance.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on engineering leader with deep expertise in Java/.Net Full Stack, Python, AI/GenAI, Cloud, APIs, IaC and Data Engineering, plus strong stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience building enterprise apps using Java, Spring Boot, Python, REST APIs, Microservices.
  • Experience across frontend/backend with React, Angular, TypeScript, HTML and CSS, Java/.Net, Python.
  • Expertise designing, developing and supporting APIs, microservices and distributed systems.
  • Strong cloud-native experience, preferably AWS, including deployment.
  • Understanding of CI/CD, DevOps, automated testing, release management and site reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software using industry-standard languages, frameworks and tools; ensure scalability and performance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, designers and engineers to define requirements and align with business goals.
  • Participate in code reviews and promote code quality and knowledge sharing.

Job description

Join us as a Senior software Engineer, at Barclays, where you will spearhead the evolution of our infrastructure and deployment pipelines, driving innovation and operational excellence. You will harness cutting‑edge technology to build and manage robust, scalable and secure infrastructure, ensuring seamless delivery of our digital solutions.

To be successful as a Senior software Engineer, you should have experience with:

  • A highly hands‑on engineering leader who combines deep expertise in Java/.Net Full Stack Development, Python Engineering, AI/GenAI, Cloud Platforms, APIs, Infrastructure, and Data Engineering with strong stakeholder engagement, delivery leadership, and the ability to build scalable, enterprise‑grade platforms while driving engineering excellence across the organization.
  • Strong hands‑on experience developing enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, Python, REST APIs, Microservices, and modern software engineering practices.
  • Experience building and supporting full‑stack applications across frontend and backend technologies including React, Angular, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, Java/.Net, and Python.
  • Proven expertise in designing, developing, and supporting enterprise APIs, microservices, integration services, and distributed systems.
  • Strong experience with cloud‑native technologies, preferably AWS, including deployment.
  • Strong understanding of Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, DevOps practices, automated testing, release management, and platform reliability engineering.
Some Other Highly Valued Skills May Include
  • Experience with data integration, structured and unstructured data processing, Enterprise Data Platform data products, and data engineering principles.
  • Experience within Financial Services, Risk, Fraud, Economic Crime, Cyber Security, or Regulatory Technology domains.
  • Exposure to Databricks, PySpark, Starburst, Athena, Snowflake, Iceberg, or modern data technologies.
  • Experience with event‑driven architecture, messaging platforms, Kafka, or streaming technologies.
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.) and platform automation.
  • Exposure to observability and monitoring tools such as Splunk, Grafana, CloudWatch, or similar platforms.

The role is based out of Pune.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

Accountabilities
  • Development and delivery of high‑quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimised for performance.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
