Job summary

Dezerv, Bengaluru-based, is building a high-performance backend platform for its investment solutions. We seek a Lead Backend Engineer to own microservices, design scalable architectures, and mentor a growing team.

You’ll work closely with Product, Data, and business stakeholders in a fast-paced fintech setting. Must have 5+ years in software development with 1–2 years leading a project, strong Golang/Java skills, and MongoDB expertise.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development experience, with 1–2 years leading a project or ownership.
• Strong knowledge of Golang, Java or similar language with multithreading.
• Expertise in MongoDB and schema design for business processes.
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and raise skill levels.
• Experience making architecture decisions under constraints — timeline, team size, technical debt.
• Strong stakeholder management and clear communication; comfortable with ambiguity.

Responsibilities

• Stay hands-on - design and build microservices reusable, testable, scalable.
• Own your code from design through production, maintaining high quality and reviews.
• Own the technical roadmap for your pod and translate priorities into a de-risked engineering plan.
• Make and defend architecture decisions for your domain end-to-end; sign off before production shipping.
• Raise the bar on engineering quality across the team with reviews, testing discipline, and documentation.
• Be the escalation point when production breaks and lead incidents.
• Mentor 3–5 engineers through code reviews, pairing, and coaching; collaborate with Product/Data to shape what gets built.

What you'll do -

As a builder

• Stay hands-on - this is still 60–70% a builder role, not a full step away from code.
• Design and build microservices that are reusable, testable, and built to scale.
• Own your code from design through production, and hold the same bar for your team.

As a technical owner

• Own the technical roadmap for your pod - translate business priorities into a sequenced, de-risked engineering plan.
• Make and defend architecture decisions for your domain end-to-end, and act as final technical sign-off before something ships to production.
• Raise the bar on engineering quality across the team - set the standard for code review depth, testing discipline, and documentation.
• Be the escalation point when production breaks - lead the room during an incident

As a leader

• Mentor 3–5 engineers through code reviews, pairing, and real technical coaching.
• Partner directly with Product, Data, and business stakeholders to shape what gets built and why.
• Participate in hiring - bar-raise interviews, and help build the team you want to lead.

What we're looking for -

Must-haves

• 5+ years of experience, including 1–2 years leading a project or owning a technical domain end-to-end.
• In-depth knowledge of Golang, Java, or another language that supports multithreading.
• Excellent knowledge of MongoDB, with the ability to design schemas that support real business processes.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and level them up
• Experience making and defending architecture decisions under real constraints — timeline, team size, technical debt.
• Strong stakeholder management — you can hold your own in a room with Product and business leaders.
• Strong decision-making and communication skills; comfortable owning ambiguity.

Good to have

• Exposure to React, Redux, or other modern frontend stacks.
• Prior experience in fintech, wealthtech, or another regulated environment.

Dezerv is scaling fast, and this role is built for someone who wants to own outcomes, not just execute tickets. You'll work close to the business, close to real capital decisions, and close to a team that expects you to think, not just build what you're told. As a Lead, you'll also shape how the next 5–10 engineers we hire think about ownership.
