Job summary

GE Vernova in India seeks a Lead Field Engineer – Electrical Excitation/LCI to manage on-site electrical activities during installation, commissioning and maintenance of turbine/generator excitation systems. You will install, commission and troubleshoot EX2000/EX2100/LS2100 series equipment, provide technical direction, and ensure safety and quality during field operations.

The role requires extensive travel (more than 75%), offshore readiness, and strong collaboration with customers and service

Job Description Summary

The Lead Field Engineer – Electrical Excitation/LCI is responsible for the Power Turbine Generator Excitation & digital electronic starters (LCI System activities on site during the Installation and Commissioning and is accountable for control of costs, quality. As well as external reporting: Technical Field Advisers may report to the client, the plant/utility owner, the construction firm, giving daily or weekly updates on job progress or as needed. Responsible for reviewing plant engineering documents and P&ID’s, troubleshooting of plant systems and equipment, planning, organizing, integrating and direction of resources such as labor, tools and materials as required to complete the work scope according to contractual requirements. You may be assigned to other duties to help proactively drive our GE Gas Powe Controls vision and align with our organization’s core values.

Job Description Roles and Responsibilities

Actively manage electrical activities on-site during Installation, Commissioning and Maintenance of upgrade project or new installation, including but not limited to oversight of installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and diagnostics for Electrical system such as GEV EX2100e & LS2100e. Overall responsibility of the management of site activities including planning, organizing, integrating, and directing of resources such as labor, tools, and materials as required to complete the work scope according to contractual requirements. Electrical Technical Field Advisor will install, commission, and troubleshoot the Excitation panel, LCI, Digital Generator Protection panel and supporting wiring systems for gas and steam turbines. Ensure the correct installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and maintenance practices are followed. Provide technical expertise to customers, service support, field technicians, and operators. Provide timely and accurate internal and external reports. Ensure contractual obligations are met and attend technical meetings with Customers. Ensure all in-field activities are carried out safely complying with company environmental, health, and safety (EHS) guidelines and procedures. Provide expert consultation on complex projects. Provide customers with technical direction and support on Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) packaged products. Drive customer satisfaction through commitment to quality. Support the business growth initiatives. Trace through the software documentation. Implement control constant modifications. Reading and Modifying software sequencing Set up and modify the hardware /software associated with Gas and Steam Turbine systems. Implement excitation control system software changes. Work on absolute system such as EX2000/EX2100/ LS2100 & LS2100e Work with both analog and digital controls including logic. Provide Technical Direction for wiring install and terminate, complete functionality checks, and troubleshooting the turbine excitation / LCI system. Perform start-up/shut-down sequencing and turbine/generator operation. Pre-outage and installation planning; possibly recommending and administering policies and procedures. Availability to frequently travel (.i.e. More than 75%), work offshore and in restricted countries Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 5 years of experience, or 8 years of experience without formal degree, in power plant maintenance, turbine generator maintenance, or power plant electrical equipment installation/ commissioning. Experience working on GEV Electrical systems such Electrical EX2000, EX2100, EX2100e, LS2100, LS2100e and GPP systems.

Desired Characteristics

Qualified level. Has the knowledge and skill to actively support an outage and be aware of where to seek answers to questions as they arise. Has experienced successful installations and outages. Experience with Gas Turbine Driver Control Systems and Auxiliary Systems and their integration with Excitation / LCI system. Familiar with Instruments and controls and PLCs for controls training Wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Strong analytic and problem-solving skills Good interpersonal and organization skills Strong computer skills Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Ability to manage turnkey projects.
