Qualifications

• Senior engineer with a strong background in cloud platforms, software engineering and modern DevOps.
• Experience across AWS, Azure and/or GCP.
• Hands-on Infrastructure as Code experience, particularly Terraform; knowledge of CloudFormation, Pulumi, AWS CDK or similar.
• Strong Python development skills for APIs, services and integrations.
• Practical experience with Docker and Kubernetes (GKE, EKS, AKS).
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI or similar.
• Experience with configuration management and observability tools (Ansible, Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, CloudWatch).
• Experience with databases including schema design and data scalability.
• Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools (Airflow, dbt, Beam, Metaflow, Kubeflow).
• Strong understanding of API design, distributed systems and software architecture.
• Good CS fundamentals and working knowledge of Agile development practices.
• Exposure to LLMs, prompt engineering or LangChain advantageous.

Our client is looking for an experienced Lead Platform Engineer to design and build cloud-based platforms and distributed systems supporting complex technology and AI initiatives for some of the world’s largest organisations.

This is a hands‑on technical leadership role combining cloud engineering, software engineering and DevOps. You’ll work across architecture, development and infrastructure, building the platforms and services that enable engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable and reliable solutions.

The role offers the opportunity to work across a variety of client environments and industries while remaining close to the technology and delivery.

What You'll Do

• Design and deliver cloud‑based distributed solutions across AWS, Azure and/or GCP.
• Build the platform components, services and infrastructure required to support modern analytics and AI workloads.
• Develop backend APIs, microservices and integrations, primarily using Python.
• Build automated infrastructure and deployment processes using Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD.
• Deploy and operate containerised applications in cloud environments, including Kubernetes.
• Establish strong engineering practices around code quality, testing, security and maintainability.
• Monitor and troubleshoot distributed systems, improving reliability, performance and resilience.
• Work with engineering and consulting teams to understand client requirements and translate them into practical platform solutions.

What We're Looking For

We’re looking for a senior engineer with a strong background in cloud platforms, software engineering and modern DevOps.

You’ll ideally bring:

• 6+ years’ professional experience, including 3+ years at Senior, Staff or equivalent level.
• Experience delivering cloud and software engineering solutions within a product engineering, consulting or professional services environment.
• Strong experience across AWS, Azure and/or GCP.
• Hands‑on Infrastructure as Code experience, particularly Terraform, with knowledge of CloudFormation, Pulumi, AWS CDK or similar.
• Strong Python development skills, particularly for APIs, services and integrations.
• Practical experience with Docker and Kubernetes, ideally GKE, EKS or AKS.
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD, using tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI or similar.
• Experience with configuration management and observability tools such as Ansible, Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, CloudWatch or equivalent.
• Experience working with databases, including schema design, scalability and structured or unstructured data.

• Working knowledge of Agile development practices.
