Aufgaben

• Lead architecture, specification and design of complex optical payloads and laser-based assemblies.
• Perform advanced optical design, ray tracing, stray light analysis and tolerance budgeting.
• Drive product development from concept through qualification and deployment.

Role & responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Lead Optics Design to provide technical leadership in the development of advanced tactical and space-grade optical systems for aerospace and defence applications (Electro-Optics & Optical Payloads Division). You will lead a team of optics engineers and drive end-to-end optical system design, development, integration, qualification and deployment.

• Lead the architecture, specification and design of complex optical payloads, thermal imaging systems, telescopes and laser-based assemblies
• Perform advanced optical design, ray tracing, stray light analysis, tolerance budgeting and thermal-optical modelling
• Drive product development from concept through qualification and deployment
• Mentor and lead optics design and testing teams, ensuring technical excellence and timely project delivery
• Collaborate with optomechanical, thermal, electronics and systems engineering teams for integrated product development
• Oversee optical assembly, alignment, prototyping and laboratory testing activities
• Interface with defence organisations, research institutions and strategic customers for requirement analysis and technical discussions
• Ensure compliance with aerospace and defence quality standards, including MIL-STD and space qualification requirements

Preferred candidate profile

• M.E / M.Tech / Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Applied Optics, Physics, Optoelectronics or related disciplines
• 1015+ years of relevant experience in optical system design and development
• Expertise in Zemax OpticStudio, CODE V, LightTools, FRED or equivalent optical design tools
• Strong knowledge of refractive, reflective, diffractive and aspheric optical systems
• Experience in VIS, SWIR, MWIR and LWIR optical system development
• Hands-on experience with interferometers, MTF test benches, wavefront sensing and optical characterisation equipment
• Understanding of optical materials, coatings and environmental qualification standards
• Strong leadership, mentoring and stakeholder management skills
• Preferred industry experience: Aerospace, Defence, Electro-Optics, Space Systems, Optical Payloads, Thermal Imaging, Laser Systems, ISRO, DRDO, Defence PSUs, Avionics, Surveillance Systems
