Job summary

Carelon Global Solutions India is seeking a Lead - Payroll to oversee end-to-end payroll operations, ensuring timely salary processing and strict statutory compliance. The role collaborates with HR, Finance and external vendors to optimize processes and reduce risk.

The successful candidate will have 8–12 years of payroll experience, proficiency with SAP/Oracle/Workday/Ramco/ADP, and strong knowledge of Indian payroll legislation and taxes. This is a full-time on-site position based in Bengaluru.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, HR or related discipline.
  • Professional certifications in Payroll, Finance, or HR are an added advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end monthly payroll processing for all employee categories.
  • Ensure timely and accurate salary disbursement and payroll sign-off.
  • Validate inputs: hires, exits, promotions, transfers, salary revisions, bonuses and reimbursements.
  • Ensure compliance with Income Tax, PF, ESI, PT, Labour Welfare Fund and other statutory requirements.
  • Lead payroll automation and process-improvement initiatives.

The Payroll Lead is responsible for managing end-to-end payroll operations, ensuring timely and accurate salary processing, statutory compliance, payroll accounting, and continuous process improvements. The role collaborates with HR, Finance, Tax, and external payroll vendors, and ensures compliance with applicable labor laws and tax regulations.

Key Responsibilities
Payroll Operations
  • Manage end-to-end monthly payroll processing for all employee categories.
  • Ensure timely and accurate salary disbursement.
  • Validate payroll inputs including new hires, exits, promotions, transfers, salary revisions, bonuses, incentives, and reimbursements.
  • Review payroll outputs and resolve discrepancies before payroll sign-off.
  • Oversee final settlement (F&F) processing for exiting employees.
Compliance & Statutory Requirements
  • Ensure compliance with Income Tax, PF, ESI, Professional Tax, Labour Welfare Fund, and other applicable statutory requirements.
  • Ensure timely filing of statutory returns and remittances.
  • Coordinate with auditors and statutory authorities during audits and assessments.
  • Monitor changes in labor laws and payroll regulations and implement necessary process updates.
Payroll Controls & Governance
  • Establish and maintain payroll controls to ensure data accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Perform payroll reconciliations with HRIS, Finance, and bank payment files.
  • Review payroll journals, accruals, and provisioning.
  • Ensure payroll documentation, SOPs, and process controls are up to date.
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
  • Manage payroll service providers and ensure adherence to agreed service levels.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for HR, Finance, Tax, Treasury, and business leaders on payroll matters.
  • Coordinate with banks for salary processing and payment-related activities.
Reporting & Analytics
  • Prepare payroll MIS reports, dashboards, and management reports.
  • Analyze payroll trends, headcount changes, Shift Allowance, overtime, leave encashment, and statutory costs.
  • Support budgeting and workforce cost analysis.
Systems & Process Improvement
  • Drive payroll automation and process optimization initiatives.
  • Participate in HRIS and payroll system implementations, upgrades, and testing.
  • Ensure data integrity across HR and payroll systems.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and compliance.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certifications in Payroll, Finance, or HR are an added advantage.
Experience
  • 8–12 years of payroll experience.
  • Experience managing medium to large payrolls (10,000+ employees preferred).
  • Hands‑on experience with payroll systems such as SAP, Oracle, Workday, Ramco, ADP, or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of Indian payroll legislation, taxation, and labor compliance.
