Job summary

NewSpace Research and Technologies in Bengaluru and Delhi NCR seeks an experienced embedded software engineer to develop avionics software for data recorders, flight controllers, and related systems. You will drive end-to-end development from requirements to flight testing in a fast-paced start-up environment.

The role requires hands-on experience with Embedded C++, Python/Java/C#, and RTOS, plus SITL/HITL simulations.

Qualifications

• Experience across all SW development phases from architecture to validation.
• Proficient in Embedded C++, Python/Java/C#, and RTOS.
• Familiar with SITL/HITL simulations and test benches.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• DO-178/ISO26262 knowledge is a plus; defence/aerospace domain experience preferred.
• 8+ years of software development experience, with CS/Electronics degree.

Responsibilities

• Develop embedded software for data recorders, flight controllers, and BMS.
• Lead end-to-end avionics software development from requirements to flight testing.
• Define software architecture and development plans using bare-metal or RTOS.
• Review test plans and coordinate test execution and reporting.
• Mentor the team and drive software certification processes with regulators.
• Collaborate with systems, power, flight controls, and hardware teams to ensure integration.

Job description

We are a start-up based out of Bengaluru & Delhi NCR. We are engaged in development of next generation missions and technologies (NGM&T) towards future warfare needs of the Indian defence forces. It is undertaking research towards enhancing persistence and autonomy for unmanned vehicles and robotic swarms. NRT’s product development portfolio includes a solar power stratospheric high altitude pseudo satellite (HAPS) unmanned platform and an air/ground launched stand-off autonomous system.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Development of embedded software for applications such as data recorders, on-board computers, flight controllers, battery management systems, power electronic control systems etc.

• Responsible for driving the end-to-end avionics software development activities: from requirements to flight testing.

• Define software architecture, development plans & process (bare-metal, RTOS, or Model-

• Review unit, integration, and regression test plans, coordinate test execution & report generation.

• Conduct software level FMEAs & Code reviews to ensure clean, scalable, high-quality software that meets MISRA-C/DO-178 guidelines.

• Cross functional interface with systems, electrical power systems, flight controls, hardware teams to ensure smooth integration of software & hardware onto the flight.

• Guide & mentor the team to execute their deliverables.

• Establish processes for software certification in the company. Interface with the certification agency.

• Establish scope and framework for standardization of integration processes and common tools identification. Prepare associated documentation for company records.

Must have skills:

• Experienced in all phases of SW development: from architecture definition to user acceptance.

• Has worked on:

o Languages: Embedded C++, Python/Java/C#

o RTOS frameworks such as FreeRTOS, VxWorks, Green Hills

o Setting up of SITL/HITL Simulations & Test-benches

• Excellent articulation, communication & interpersonal skills.

• Experienced in developing software for one or more of avionic components such as sensors(IMU, GPS, airspeed, voltage, current and temperature), payloads(EO/IR Camera, RADAR, LIDAR, LRF), servos/solenoids, Flight Controllers, Data Recorders, On-board Computers,

Good to have skills:

• Experienced in DO-178/ISO26262 certification and standards.

• Experienced in Aerospace/Defence/Automotive domains.

• Bachelors/Masters with at least one degree in Computer Science/Electronics Engineering

• 8+ years of Software Development experience.
