Job summary

FinOps Weekly is seeking a Lead Cloud Economist to establish and lead a new FinOps practice across AWS, Azure, and GCP. You will partner with engineering, finance, and procurement to drive cost visibility, governance, and accountable spending.

The role focuses on strategy, operating model, and tooling to optimise cloud spend, including forecasting, budgeting, and multi-cloud expansion. Hybrid work in Pune or Bengaluru is offered.

Qualifications

The role exists to define the strategy, operating model, processes, and tooling needed to improve cloud spend visibility, strengthen financial accountability, and support better investment decisions across cloud environments. The initial focus is AWS, with a planned path to GCP and Azure.ManagementAs Lead Cloud Economist, you will work across engineering, finance, procurement, and business teams to create a cost-aware culture and put governance around cloud spend. You will help shape how cloud costs are managed, measured, reported, and optimised across the organisation.The position is designed to influence both day-to-day cloud cost control and longer-term financial governance, including forecasting, budgeting, allocation, and multi-cloud expansion.## Key Responsibilities– Define the vision, roadmap, scope, KPIs, and success measures for the Cloud Finance Management practice. – Lead the setup of the FinOps operating model, governance framework, policies, standards, and best practices. – Establish cost allocation, showback, chargeback, and accountability mechanisms across teams and business units. – Analyse cloud spend across AWS, Azure, and GCP to identify optimisation opportunities in compute, storage, networking, and services. – Recommend and support rightsizing, Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, architecture improvements, and other cost-saving actions. – Build dashboards and reports that show cloud spend, cost drivers, optimisation opportunities, and realised savings. – Partner with engineering teams to implement recommendations and track outcomes. – Extend FinOps processes and tooling across multiple cloud providers. – Evaluate and manage cloud cost management and optimisation tools. – Create automation, scripts, and workflows to improve reporting, analysis, and optimisation. – Develop forecasting models and support cloud budgeting with finance teams. – Monitor actual spend against forecasts and provide variance analysis and recommendations. – Continuously improve governance, reporting, optimisation, and cloud cost management practices.## Required Skills– 7–12 years of experience. – 8+ years of experience in cloud cost management and optimisation. – Proven experience building and scaling a Cloud Finance Management / FinOps practice. – Strong knowledge of cloud pricing models, billing structures, and cost optimisation methods across AWS, Azure, and GCP. – Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills. – Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and presentation skills. – Experience with data visualisation, reporting, and automation. – Experience with scripting, particularly Python. – Understanding of Infrastructure as Code concepts and their cost implications. – Familiarity with cloud cost governance and financial management tooling. – Experience with AWS, Azure, and GCP cost and billing capabilities.Management## Preferred Skills– FinOps Certified Practitioner. – AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner. – AWS Certified Cost Management. – Google Cloud Associate Cloud Engineer. – Microsoft Azure Fundamentals.## Cloud Platforms & Technologies### Cloud Providers – AWS – Azure – GCP### AWS Cost and Billing Tools – AWS Cost Explorer – Cost and Usage Reports (CUR) – AWS Budgets – Savings Plans Recommendation Engine – Reserved Instance planning – Billing and Cost Management – Trusted Advisor – Compute Optimizer – Pricing Calculator – CloudWatch – Athena### Azure Cost Tools – Azure Cost Management + Billing – Azure AdvisorManagement### GCP Cost Tools – GCP Cloud Billing – GCP Cost Management### Third-Party Platforms – CloudHealth – Cloudamize – CloudblazeTech### Reporting and Analytics – Tableau – Power BI### Programming Languages – Python### Infrastructure as Code – Terraform – CloudFormation## FinOps Responsibilities– Build the strategy and operating model for a new FinOps function. – Create governance, policy, and reporting standards for cloud financial management. – Implement cost allocation, showback, and chargeback models. – Improve cloud spend visibility and accountability across teams. – Analyse spend trends and identify cost reduction opportunities. – Support rightsizing, commitment planning, and architecture efficiency decisions. – Develop forecasting and budgeting frameworks for cloud expenditure. – Track actual spend against forecast and explain variances. – Improve cost reporting, automation, and optimisation processes over time. – Extend consistent financial governance across AWS, GCP, and Azure.## Why You Might Be InterestedThis role offers the chance to build a FinOps capability from the beginning and shape how cloud spend is managed across a multi-cloud environment.
