• B.E. or Masters in Mechanical Engineering with relevant design focus.
• 3–4 years of experience in mechanical design for production environments.
• Strong fundamentals in mechanical design, materials, GD&T, and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide L2/L3 mechanical engineering support for production units.
• Investigate mechanical failures during assembly, testing, shipment, and field use.
• Support pilot builds, ramp-up, and sustaining engineering activities.
• Conduct root cause analysis for misalignment, wear, leakage, and deformation.
• Translate feedback into design updates and tolerance improvements.
• Participate in design reviews, DFMEA, PFMEA, and risk assessments.
• Drive DFM, DFA, and design-for-serviceability improvements.
• Support ECR/ECN activities with technical inputs and impact analysis.
• Validate changes through fit, functional, and environmental testing.
• Interface with manufacturing, quality and suppliers on processes.
• Maintain mechanical drawings, BOMs, tolerances, and SOPs; document failures.

Job description

Role Purpose

To support production and fielded products from a mechanical design perspective, ensuring robustness, manufacturability, reliability, and serviceability. The role acts as a feedback loop between manufacturing, field service, and R&D, converting production issues into design and process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production & Field Support (R&D Ownership)

• Provide L2/L3 mechanical engineering support for production units.
• Investigate mechanical failures observed during assembly, testing, shipment, and field use.
• Support pilot builds, production ramp-up, and sustaining engineering activities.

2. Failure Analysis & Root Cause Investigation

• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for mechanical issues such as misalignment, vibration, wear, leakage, deformation, and fitment issues.
• Analyze failures related to tolerances, material selection, fasteners, surface finishes, and assembly methods.
• Support teardown and failure documentation.

3. Design Feedback & Improvements

• Translate production and field feedback into design updates and tolerance improvements.
• Participate in design reviews, DFMEA, PFMEA, and risk assessments.
• Drive DFM, DFA, and Design-for-Serviceability improvements.

4. Change Management & Validation

• Support ECR/ECN activities with technical inputs, drawings, and impact analysis.
• Validate mechanical design changes through fit checks, functional testing, environmental testing, and pilot builds.
• Ensure proper documentation and revision control.

5. Manufacturing & Supplier Interface

• Work closely with manufacturing, quality, and suppliers to resolve production issues.
• Support vendor discussions on machining, sheet metal, injection molding, surface treatments, and assembly processes.
• Review inspection methods and acceptance criteria.

6. Documentation & Knowledge Sharing

• Maintain mechanical drawings, BOMs, tolerance stacks, and assembly SOPs.
• Create failure analysis reports and troubleshooting guides.
• Support training of production and service teams.

Technical Skills & Competencies

• Strong fundamentals in mechanical design and materials
• Experience with:
  • CAD tools (3D modeling, assemblies, drawings)
  • GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis
  • Manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, plastics)
• Understanding of:
  • Thermal effects, vibration, and structural integrity
