Job summary

Quest Global in Bangalore, KA is seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer specializing in flare & relief systems to lead pressure-relief design and safety compliance on upstream/refining projects. You will apply process safety standards, perform sizing calculations, develop PFDs/P&IDs, and coordinate with operations to ensure reliable, compliant relief performance and risk mitigation.

Qualifications

• Chemical engineering degree required.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist pressure relief engineering expertise and assurance for site Relief Valve Technical Authority.
• Central resource for safe, reliable closure of HAZOP/LOPA recommendations.
• Manage performance and closure paths for HAZOP/LOPA items.
• Create lessons learned and apply best practices for risk scenarios.
• Support technical inquiries via reviews, analyses, and approval of relief calculation files.
• Recommend site pressure relief device sizing and disposal system calculations.
• Identify and address gaps in relief protection with site teams.
• Participate in investigations and root cause analyses; drive learning.
• Support site technical documentation for pressure relief valves and flare disposal systems.
• Interface with operations, maintenance and site SMEs.

Job description

Job Title: Senior Process Engineer Flare & Relief Systems

Location: Bangalore, KA

Relevant Experience Required:

• Chemical engineering or equivalent degree is required.
• 12-15 years experience with upstream / refining / petrochemical domain. Knowledge of relief valve calculations is mandatory. Lesser experience may be considered if the experience is more focused on Flare and Relief system.
• Knowledge of PHA, HAZOP studies and other Process Safety aspects including various risk management techniques

Mandatory Skills:

• Experienced process engineer who has significant experience in process and process safety engineering in pressure relief systems including pressure relief device sizing and disposal systems.
• Good knowledge of Process simulation software such as Petrosim (preferred) /HYSYS/PRO-II, Aspen Flare Analyzer etc.
• Knowledge and understanding of other Process Engineering deliverables such as PFD, P&ID, Heat and Mass Balance calculations, hydraulic calculations etc
• Strong Knowledge of Industry standards such as API 520, 521 etc. Knowledge of bop standards is a plus
• Must have good technical communication skills. This includes ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with client to understand their requirements and communicate solutions.
• Past experience with HAZOP/LOPA (including understanding how recommendations are created, Closeout of recommendations and closeout report preparation)
• Proven track record delivering a Process Safety Program
• Proven ability in practical application of engineering standards and practices for process engineering
• Extensive technical understanding of process engineering, understanding of process and process safety modelling tools, good understanding of risk management including the use of risk barrier diagrams processes in the oil and gas industry
• Experience adding sizing cases to flare and relief analysis

Good to have Skills:

• Knowledge of DNV Phast
• Knowledge of PHA Pro or similar software

Key Responsibilities:

• Role will be responsible for providing specialist pressure relief engineering expertise and assurance to the site Relief Valve Technical Authority, projects and operations, to systematically resolve problems and applying advanced engineering judgement to assist in setting and implementing engineering technical practices, and drive integrated, pragmatic solutions focused on risk management, operating efficiency, defect elimination and standardization.
• central resource for safe, reliable and compliant closure of HAZOP/LOPA recommendations created by bps centralized HAZOP/LOPA Revalidation program.
• Performance management of assigned HAZOP/LOPA recommendation items and their associated path to closure
• Create lessons learned and apply best practices for identifying risk scenarios and interface with the central HAZOP/LOPA delivery team to incorporate those learnings proactively
• Support technical inquiries by participating in reviews, technical analysis, troubleshooting, and acceptance/approval of pressure relief calculation files
• Provide technical recommendation of site pressure relief device sizing and disposal system calculations
• Risk assess gaps in relief protection and disposal systems and work with site to rigorously address identified issues
• Participate in investigations, root cause identification, and drive continued learning as requested.
• Support of site technical documentation related to pressure relief valves and flare disposal systems (PRS calculation files, device spec sheets, unit summaries, disposal system or revalidation studies)
• Interface regularly with operations, maintenance and other site SMEs and specialists
