Job summary

ALTEN India is seeking a BIW Designer to design and develop BIW upper and underbody systems, including panels, pillars, and floor assemblies. You will create 3D models and engineering drawings using CATIA V5/V6 and manage data in PLM systems like 3DEXPERIENCE and ENOVIA.

Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential to ensure manufacturing feasibility and quality. The role requires strong GD&T skills, sheet metal design experience, and a solid understanding of BIW processes,

Qualifications

• BE or MSc in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in BIW design and sheet metal components preferred.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing methods and assembly processes.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop BIW upper body systems (roof, pillars, panels).
• Develop BIW underbody systems (floor, rear panels, cross members).
• Create 3D models and drawings using CATIA V5/V6.
• Manage product data in PLM (3DEXPERIENCE/ENOVIA) and BOMs.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, safety, CAE and quality teams.

Job description

• Design and develop BIW upper body systems, including roof, side body outer and inner panels, A/B/C pillars, and sill assemblies.
• Design and develop BIW underbody systems, such as floor assembly, rear panels, longitudinal members, dash panels, and seat cross members.
• Create and modify sheet metal components in compliance with design specifications, manufacturability, and performance requirements.
• Apply strong knowledge of master sections, GD&T, tolerancing, manufacturing methods, and assembly processes during design development.
• Develop detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using CAD tools, primarily CATIA V5/V6.
• Utilize PLM systems such as 3DEXPERIENCE and ENOVIA to manage product data and design releases.
• Manage BIW interfaces, packaging constraints, and dimensional clearances across vehicle systems.
• Maintain product structures, BOMs, and part releases within PLM environments.
• Apply in-depth understanding of materials and manufacturing processes used in BIW structures.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, safety, CAE, and quality teams.
• Ensure compliance with automotive BIW design standards, regulations, and best practices.
• Support structural analysis and simulation requirements to validate design performance and durability.
• Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and preparation of engineering documentation.
• Support BIW testing and validation activities to drive continuous design improvements.
• Perform benchmarking studies of competitor designs and materials and propose innovative design solutions.
• Demonstrate strong communication, coordination, and teamwork skills in a multi-disciplinary environment.
