Job summary

ALTEN India is seeking a skilled BIW Closure Design Engineer in Chennai to drive body closures from concept to production. You will develop master sections, perform articulation studies, and ensure manufacturability with strong GD&T practices and CAE support.

Ideal candidates hold a BE/Master in Mechanical, 7–9 years experience, and will collaborate with styling and supplier teams to optimize weight, cost, and performance on aerospace-grade BIW components.

Qualifications

• Experience in BIW design and development from concept to production.
• Strong knowledge of CATIA V5 for BIW closures design.
• Understanding of GD&T, sheet metal tolerance, DFM & DFA.

Responsibilities

• Design BIW closures and master sections and conduct feasible studies.
• Collaborate with styling teams to convert designs into manufacturable parts.
• Provide design solutions based on CAE feedback and validate with supplier teams.

• Strong knowledge of BIW design and development of body closures from concept to production stage.
• Able to develop master sections and feasible study.
• Basic knowledge in door / closures assembly kinematics.
• Ability to work with styling teams to convert design concepts into manufacturable parts.
• Good understanding of sheet metal parts material, manufacturing process, assembly, crashworthiness.
• Good knowledge in GD&T, sheet metal tolerance, DFM & DFA.
• Optimize the designs for weight reduction, cost efficiency and manufacturing without compromising the performance.
• Provide design solutions based on CAE feedback.
• Liaison with supplier teams for validation and release.
• Experience in benchmarking, packaging studies, and defining optimal design solutions.
• Strong problem-solving, project management & communication skills.

BIW Closure

• Strong knowledge BIW Closures parts design using CATIA V5.
• Strong knowledge of BIW design and development of body closures from concept to production stage.
• Able to develop master sections and feasible study.
• Door opening / articulation study, Door hinge Axis layout, Door components packaging study.
• Basic knowledge in door / closures assembly kinematics.
• Ability to work with styling teams to convert design concepts into manufacturable parts.
• Good understanding of sheet metal parts material, manufacturing process, assembly, crashworthiness.
• Good knowledge in GD&T, sheet metal tolerance, DFM & DFA.
