Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Java Solution Architect to lead the re-platforming and modernization of mission-critical IBM DB2/Mainframe applications onto Microsoft Azure. The role will drive target-state architecture, application modernization, cloud-native design, integration strategies, and Infrastructure-as-Code standards while ensuring scalable, secure, resilient, and business-aligned solutions.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in Java enterprise application architecture, Azure cloud platforms, legacy modernization, microservices transformation, and large-scale re-platforming initiatives, with a proven track record of migrating monolithic and mainframe-based systems to modern cloud-native architectures.
Responsibilities
Application Modernization Re-platforming
- Define the target architecture and modernization roadmap for migrating Mainframe/DB2 applications to Azure.
- Lead re-platforming initiatives transforming legacy applications into cloud-native, microservices-based architectures.
- Define modernization patterns including decomposition, service extraction, API enablement, and event-driven architectures.
- Balance business continuity, risk, scalability, cost, and operational efficiency during transformation programs.
Java Microservices Architecture
- Design enterprise-grade solutions using Java 21, Spring Boot, Spring Batch, Spring Cloud, and RESTful APIs.
- Define microservices architecture standards, domain boundaries, integration contracts, and service governance.
- Architect batch, real-time, and event-driven processing solutions.
- Design reusable frameworks, shared services, and engineering standards to accelerate modernization efforts.
- Establish best practices for application scalability, resiliency, fault tolerance, and performance optimization.
Azure Cloud Architecture
- Architect cloud-native solutions leveraging Azure services including:
- AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service) and Docker
- Azure Functions
- API Management
- Azure Data Factory
- Event Hub / Service Bus
- Azure Storage Services
- Design hybrid integration patterns between mainframe and Azure environments
- Establish cloud architecture standards covering security, scalability, observability, and operational excellence.
DevOps, Automation Infrastructure
- Define and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform (Mandatory).
- Working knowledge of integrating CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions.
- Establish DevSecOps practices including automated testing, security scanning, deployment automation, and monitoring.
- Drive cloud cost optimization and operational efficiency initiatives.
Technology Leadership AI Adoption
- Provide architecture leadership, governance, and technical direction across modernization programs.
- Conduct architecture reviews, design assessments, and technology evaluations.
- Drive adoption of AI-assisted software engineering and architecture practices.
- Evaluate and integrate AI/GenAI capabilities to improve developer productivity, operational automation, and business outcomes.
- Ensure responsible, secure, and compliant adoption of AI technologies.
Required Skills Experience
- 14+ years of experience in Solution Architecture, Application Architecture, or Enterprise Architecture.
- Strong experience leading large-scale application re-platforming and modernization programs.

- Extensive experience migrating applications from:
- Monolithic to Microservices
- On-Premises to Azure

- Strong experience with:
