Persistent Systems in Hyderabad seeks an experienced Java SDET / Automation Testing Engineer to join our Quality Engineering team. The role focuses on designing and implementing scalable automation frameworks, API testing, and end-to-end quality assurance for enterprise applications.

You will build and maintain test automation across UI, API, and backend layers, work with Rest Assured, Cucumber for BDD, and integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines.

Qualifications

• 10–12 years of experience in Software Testing, Quality Engineering, or SDET roles.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Java SDET / Automation Testing Engineer to join our Quality Engineering team in Hyderabad. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in automation testing, API testing, test framework development, and quality engineering practices. This role requires a highly motivated professional who can design and implement robust automation frameworks while ensuring the quality, performance, and reliability of enterprise applications and services.

What You’ll Do:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and reusable automation testing frameworks using Java.
• Develop and execute automated test scripts for APIs, microservices, and enterprise applications.
• Perform API automation testing using Rest Assured and related testing frameworks.
• Design and implement BDD-based automation frameworks using Cucumber.
• Collaborate with developers, architects, business analysts, and product owners to understand requirements and define testing strategies.
• Participate in sprint planning, backlog grooming, retrospectives, and other Agile ceremonies.
• Validate functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing requirements.
• Create, execute, and maintain automated test suites for continuous testing.
• Review business and technical requirements and identify test scenarios and automation opportunities.
• Perform debugging, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for complex application issues.
• Develop automation solutions for service, API, and backend testing layers.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using modern DevOps tools.
• Conduct code reviews for automation scripts and promote testing best practices.
• Create and maintain detailed test documentation, reports, and quality metrics.
• Collaborate with development teams to resolve defects and improve application quality.
• Support performance validation and reliability testing activities.
• Continuously evaluate and enhance automation frameworks and testing processes.
• Stay updated with emerging testing tools, frameworks, and industry best practices.

Expertise You’ll Bring:

• 10 to 12 years of experience in Software Testing, Quality Engineering, or SDET roles.
• Strong hands-on expertise in Java programming and object-oriented design principles.
• Extensive experience in Automation Testing for enterprise applications and APIs.
• Strong experience with Rest Assured for API automation testing.
• Hands-on experience implementing BDD frameworks using Cucumber.
• Experience building and maintaining scalable automation frameworks using Java.
• Strong understanding of API testing, web services, microservices architecture, and service validation.
• Experience automating testing across UI, API, and service layers.
• Strong knowledge of data structures and software engineering concepts.
• Experience with Selenium or similar UI automation frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with Spring Boot-based applications and testing methodologies.
• Strong understanding of test design, defect lifecycle, and quality assurance processes.
• Experience working with JMeter for performance and load testing.
• Knowledge of messaging systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or IBM MQ.
• Strong SQL skills with experience writing complex queries and validating database operations.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Git, Maven, and related DevOps technologies.
• Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies.
• Experience with version control systems and collaborative development practices.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
• Ability to create automation strategies and improve testing efficiency.
