Job summary

Barclays Pune-based role seeks a Java BAMOE Workflow Lead to design, develop, and improve software using BPMN/DMN and API-first approaches. You will work with architects and product teams to define scalable systems and secure, efficient APIs integrated with Kafka.

Responsibilities include CI/CD implementation, code reviews, testing strategies, and ensuring observability and performance across distributed services.

Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience with Java and workflow engines BAMOE.
  • Design and develop RESTful APIs and microservices using Java (Spring Boot).
  • Build and manage workflow-driven applications using BAMOE (BPMN, DMN, rules, decision services).
  • Develop and integrate business process workflows using BPMN-based engines (BAMOE/jBPM).
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices with OpenShift (ApaaS).
  • Collaborate with architects and product teams for scalable architecture and API design.
  • Integrate workflow services with backend systems using event-driven architecture (Kafka, REST).
  • Ensure security, performance, and reliability of APIs and workflow services.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing strategy, and production issue resolution.
  • Enable monitoring, logging, and observability of applications.
  • Experience on API Gateway patterns and implementations.

Job description

Join us as a Java BAMOE Workflow Lead, At Barclays, we don’t just adapt to the future, we create it. As a Java BAMOE Workflow Lead, you will support the organisation, achieve its strategic objectives by the identification of business requirements and solutions that address business problems and opportunities.

Required Experience
  • Strong hands‑on experience with Java, and workflow engines like BAMOE.
  • Design and develop RESTful APIs and microservices using Java (Spring Boot).
  • Build and manage workflow‑driven applications using BAMOE (BPMN, DMN, rules, decision services).
  • Develop and integrate business process workflows using BPMN‑based engines (BAMOE/jBPM).
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for smooth deployment and familiarity with OpenShift (ApaaS).
  • Collaborate with architects and product teams to define scalable system architecture and API design.
  • Integrate workflow services with backend systems using event‑driven architecture (Kafka, REST APIs).
  • Ensure security, performance, and reliability of APIs and workflow services.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing strategy, and production issue resolution.
  • Enable monitoring, logging, and observability of applications.
  • Experience on API Gateway patterns and implementations.
Additional Relevant Skills
  • API gateway patterns; performance tuning; Open Shift/Azure services; observability (ELK/Splunk/AppDynamics); automated tests (Jest, Appium/Detox).
  • Understanding of BPM for workflow orchestration and process automation. Familiarity with BPMN 2.0 for designing workflows (BAMOE)/JBPM/Kamunda.
  • Testing tools knowledge like Cucumber, Insomnia or Postman.
  • Experience with Kafka or other message brokers for event‑driven communication.
  • Knowledge of unit testing and integration testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit, Mockito).
  • A self‑starter with good communications skills.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and modular design principles.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.

This role is based in Pune.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

Accountabilities
  • Development and delivery of high‑quality software solutions by using industry‑aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimised for performance.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
