Job description

Role Purpose

The Senior Manager Internal Communications will lead the organisation’s internal communication strategy to ensure employees across hospitals, corporate functions and geographies are informed, aligned, engaged and connected with the organisation’s vision, strategy, culture and business priorities.

The role will be responsible for developing and executing internal communication programmes across leadership communication, employee engagement, organisational change, culture, employer brand and critical communications.

As a listed healthcare organisation, the role will also ensure that internal communications are consistent with corporate messaging, regulatory requirements, disclosure protocols and the organisation’s reputation and governance standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Internal Communications Strategy

• Develop and execute the annual internal communications strategy aligned with business objectives and organisational priorities.
• Create communication frameworks for different employee groups across hospitals, corporate offices and support functions.
• Establish communication calendars covering strategic, operational, cultural and engagement-led initiatives.
• Ensure consistency of messaging across all internal channels and employee touchpoints.
• Build communication mechanisms that enable two-way dialogue and employee feedback.

2. Leadership Communications

• Own internal communication for the MD/CEO and senior leadership team.
• Develop CEO messages, leadership notes, townhall scripts, employee letters, video messages and presentations.
• Translate complex business priorities into simple, compelling employee communication.
• Develop communication narratives around business performance, milestones, transformation, growth and strategic priorities.
• Support leadership visibility and engagement across the organisation.

3. Employee Engagement & Culture

• Develop campaigns that strengthen organisational culture, values and employee engagement.
• Create internal campaigns around values such as patient-centricity, compassion, excellence, ethics, accountability, teamwork and innovation.
• Drive communication for employee recognition programmes, employee milestones and organisational celebrations.
• Develop storytelling programmes that showcase employee contributions and patient impact.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen employee pride and advocacy.

4. Change & Transformation Communications

• Develop communication plans for organisational transformation, restructuring, mergers, acquisitions, new initiatives and technology adoption.
• Create stakeholder-specific communication journeys for major organisational changes.
• Work closely with HR, business leaders and functional teams to ensure timely and transparent communication.
• Anticipate employee concerns and develop communication interventions to address them.
• Support leadership in communicating difficult or sensitive organisational decisions.

5. Hospital & Frontline Communications

• Develop communication frameworks for frontline healthcare employees, including doctors, nurses, technicians, administrative and support teams.
• Ensure corporate messages are effectively cascaded across hospitals and business units.
• Develop communication formats suitable for employees who may not have regular access to email or corporate systems.
• Support hospital-level engagement through newsletters, digital screens, noticeboards, townhalls and employee campaigns.
• Build mechanisms to capture feedback from frontline employees.

6. Internal Digital Channels

Own and continuously improve internal communication channels, including:

• Employee intranet
• Internal newsletters
• Email communication
• Employee mobile applications
• WhatsApp/approved messaging platforms
• Digital screens
• Townhalls and webinars
• Leadership communication platforms
• Internal social/digital communities
• Develop channel-specific content strategies and governance.
• Monitor engagement and optimise channels based on employee behaviour and feedback.

7. Townhalls & Leadership Events

• Conceptualise and execute organisation-wide and business-unit townhalls.
• Develop themes, agendas, presentations, scripts, videos and supporting communication assets.
• Partner with leadership to create engaging and interactive employee experiences.
• Manage communication before, during and after major leadership events.

8. Corporate & Business Communication Alignment

• Partner closely with Corporate Communications, PR, Brand, HR, Investor Relations and Business teams.
• Ensure internal messaging is aligned with the organisation’s external narrative and corporate positioning.
• Ensure appropriate coordination around financial results, material business developments, acquisitions, leadership changes and other sensitive corporate announcements, in line with applicable disclosure requirements.
• Maintain confidentiality and communication discipline around market-sensitive information.

9. Healthcare & Patient-Centric Storytelling

• Build internal storytelling around the organisation's impact on patients, communities and healthcare outcomes.
• Showcase clinical excellence, medical achievements, innovation, technology and service excellence.
• Create platforms for doctors, nurses and employees to share stories and best practices.
• Strengthen employee understanding of the organisation's role in improving patient lives.

10. Crisis & Critical Communications

• Support internal communication during operational, reputational or business-critical situations.
• Develop employee communication protocols and templates for crisis situations.
• Coordinate closely with Corporate Communications, HR, Legal, Compliance and leadership.
• Ensure employees receive timely, accurate and consistent information.
