Job summary

UPS is seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer to contribute to full systems lifecycle activities, from requirements to deployment. You will work with COBOL, DB2, JCL and SDLC processes in a collaborative, SAFe Agile environment to deliver reliable, scalable applications.

The role emphasizes analytical problem solving, effective communication with stakeholders, and ongoing modernization within the mainframe stack. Prior banking/financial services exposure is a plus.

Qualifications

• 4+ years hands-on mainframe development.
• 3+ years COBOL programming.
• Strong COBOL proficiency with related tools.
• DB2 design, queries, and optimization.
• JCL knowledge.
• SDLC and Agile experience.
• Analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
• Excellent communication with stakeholders.
• Experience in banking/financial services is a plus.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

This position provides input and support for full systems life cycle management activities (e.g., analyses, technical requirements, design, coding, testing, implementation of systems and applications software, etc.). He/She performs tasks within planned durations and established deadlines. This position collaborates with teams to ensure effective communication and support the achievement of objectives. He/She provides knowledge, development, maintenance, and support for applications.

Responsibilities

• Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain applications using COBOL, VSAM, DB2, CICS, SAS, JCL, PL/1
• Participate in the complete Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, deployment, and support.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders and project managers in an SAFe Agile environment to meet project deadlines and deliverables.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues in production environments, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
• Maintain and enhance existing applications to improve performance, security, and functionality.
• Develop and execute unit tests, integrate solutions, and provide detailed documentation.
• Ensure the highest quality of code and contribute to the overall improvement of the development process.
• Stay current with emerging technologies, methodologies, and industry trends related to mainframe development.

Mandatory Skills and Experience

• 4+ years of hands-on experience in Mainframe application development.
• 3+ years of practical experience in COBOL programming.
• Strong proficiency in COBOL programming and related tools.
• Solid experience with DB2 (database design, queries, and optimization).
• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with JCL (Job Control Language).
• In-depth understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interacting with stakeholders and team members effectively.
• Experience working in a corporate banking or financial services environment is a plus.

Additional Skills

• Familiarity with version control and issue tracking tools (e., Git, Jira).
• Knowledge of AzureDevOps/TFS
• Knowledge of SAFe Agile
• Knowledge of API TESTING, POSTMAN
• Familiarity with Linux, Google Cloud --> Pub/Sub or Any messaging Queues.
