Job summary

Valeo is seeking an IP protection professional to define and manage protection strategies for inventions and products. The role includes preparing filings, coordinating with R&D and projects, and handling foreign filings and portfolio management.

Responsibilities cover infringement analysis, pre-litigation actions, and ensuring IP clauses in agreements are suitable. Training for R&D teams and cross-functional collaboration are part of the position.

Qualifications

• Experience in defining IP protection strategies and filings.
• Knowledge of opposition, infringement detection, and risk assessment.
• Ability to review contracts and provide IP clauses.
• IP training for R&D teams.

Responsibilities

• Select the appropriate protection type (Patent, Design, Copyright, etc.) and best filing path.
• Define inventions, prepare filings (drafting/subcontracting), filings, prosecutions.
• Participate in decisions on foreign filings and product coverage strategy with R&D/Projects.
• Manage patent portfolio and monitor IP rights related to Valeo families.
• Lead infringement actions, pre-litigation or litigation in liaison with IP and management.
• Review IP clauses in agreements and propose modifications in contracts.

Job description

• Selection of the most appropriate type of protection (Patent, Design, Copyright, …) and best way to proceed
• Definition of the creation/inventions, preparation of the filings (drafting or subcontracting), filings, prosecutions
• Participation to the decisions regarding foreign filings,
• Definition of product coverage strategy with R&D/Projects

IP protection

• Selection of the most appropriate type of protection (Patent, Design, Copyright, …) and best way to proceed
• Definition of the creation/inventions, preparation of the filings (drafting or subcontracting), filings, prosecutions
• Participation to the decisions regarding foreign filings,
• Definition of product coverage strategy with R&D/Projects
• Patent portfolio management

Preventing or defending from third parties actions

• Project studies in view of identified competitor patents
• Action for reorienting any project in case of infringement risk
• Patent clearances and IP Rights validity studies based on one or cluster of families and including risk assessment
• Contributions to Oppositions / Nullity suits against patents granted to third parties
• Study and follow-up of infringement claims and litigations

Infringement actions against third parties (on the basis of Valeo patents)

• Infringement detection and validity check of the files
• Offensive pre-litigation or litigation actions, in liaison with IP, Division Managements and other involved functions and according to Group rules

Support To Other Functions

• Reviewing of IP clauses in agreements, Proposition of modifications in agreements
• IP training for R&D/R&I teams

Applying the Environment Safety and Security procedures and good practices; know for their activities and the activities of subcontractors the potential risks and their consequences. Be attentive and responsive to them and manage the associated action plans.
