I&C Engineer (Installation & Commissioning Engineer)

Purpose of the Installation and Commissioning Engineer (ICE) role is to positively contribute to the project results through successful coordinated management and execution of multiple tasks in alignment with Installation and Commissioning (I&C) function objectives, priorities and methods. The job holder operates with a high level of autonomy and collaborates with peers and superiors to operationalize goals and priorities in line with the strategic direction for the project.

The role involves day‑to‑day accountability for the successful delivery of tasks for which the holder is owner, to achieve time, quality and cost targets within financial, contractual and health and safety parameters.

Extensive travel within APAC with some travel to other regions (EMEA) for site commissioning work. Each project delivered by SPX Flow is led by a Project Manager supported by a project team.

Typical project assignment options include: Process Commissioning Engineer (PCE), Commissioning Team Leader (CTL), and Site Manager (SM).

Specific Assignments Depend On
  • The job holder’s skill set.
  • The size and complexity of the project.

The job holder is usually assigned when site operations start if taking a role of IS or SM. He/she is assigned when installation is completed if taking a role of CTL, PCE, or SM.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The job holder complies with SPX Flow project execution processes, methods and tools. He/she is accountable for achieving operational effectiveness within agreed time frame and demonstrates a culture of innovation, high performance, accountability and continuous improvement.

Process Commissioning Engineer Responsibilities
  • Installation Qualification (IQ)
  • Operational Qualification support (O/Q)
  • Documentation management (including updating) for his/her areas.
  • Performance Qualification support (P/Q)
  • Customer training.
  • Implementation of energies, utilities for powering MCC panels and control cabinets.
  • Instrumenta­tion setup and troubleshooting of mechanical, hydraulic, thermal and electrical failures.
  • Starting the plant, including utilities, to meet contractual performances from a physical and process standpoint.
  • Training operators and supporting the software engineer during OQ and PQ.
  • Attending meetings on request of the Commissioning Team Leader.
Weekly and Final Commissioning Reports

The Engineer conducts weekly commissioning reviews and sends a weekly report to the CTL. The final commissioning report must include: IQ report, exhaustive records of instrumentation and frequency converters settings, exhaustive records of results (flow, temperature, pressures, runtimes, etc.) compared to contractual or specified ones.

  • Mechanical IQ.

  • Instrumentation, measuring chains, regulation loops configuration.
  • I/O tests including troubleshooting and corrections.
  • Utilities activation, purge and performance checks.
  • Water cleansing/flushing.
  • Manual and semi‑automatic startup.
  • Physical performance checks.
  • Regulation loops (PID) parameter adjustments.
  • Functional capacity checks.
  • Functional qualification (OQ).
  • Cleaning in place (CIP).
  • Main functions automatic tests on water.
  • Alarm and interlock checks.
  • Operator training.
  • First productions.
  • Parameters adjustments on product.
  • Production assistance.
Commissioning Team Leader Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and lead commissioning teams.
  • Update the project commissioning plan.
  • Integrate all commissioning reports into one master document including IQ and final commissioning reports.
  • Support the Site Manager in coordinating, managing and supporting commissioning teams and contractors.
  • Implement the H&S plan regarding commissioning aspects.
Site Manager Responsibilities
  • Implement and comply with the site EH&S plan.
  • Update the project site plan.
  • Coordinate SPX team and contractors in relation to customer.
  • Administer SPX suppliers on site.
  • Communicate on site.
  • Manage project documentation on site.
  • Weekly reporting to Project Manager and Lead Engineer.
  • Ensure safe and efficient execution of works on site.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date documentation, tools and PPE.
  • Keep within site timetable and budget, manage delays or problems.

Key collaborators for the Site Manager include the customer, SPX employees, and SPX sub‑contractors.

Minimum Qualifications / Requirements
  • Graduate (Advanced towards Engineering Discipline, Food Technology, Dairy Technology).
  • Minimum 4 years experience in Process Engineering or Commissioning roles (YOGHURT Commissioning Experience Preferred).
  • Travel in APAC region with willingness to travel globally.
  • 80% travel.
  • English: speak and write.

Food Industry Knowledge

Having prior and strong experience in engineering (design and/or construction and/or commissioning) food processes (wet, liquid and/or dry).

Project Risk and Issue Management

Anticipate, identify, assess and address potential or actual events and items that may impact positively or negatively on project delivery or benefits realization.

Progress Monitoring and Reporting

Review and report on all aspects of project progress through the timely and accurate collection, maintenance and dissemination of project information to stakeholders.

Project Review and Evaluation

Conduct regular reviews to check project progress and evaluate achievement.

Project Health, Safety and Environmental Focus

Determine and apply SPX and statutory standards and methods to minimize the likelihood of accidents, injuries and environmental impact, both during the project and during operation of deliverables.

Project Scope and Change Management

Define and validate deliverables and work to produce them. Manage and respond to requests for changes to the project in a structured and controlled manner.

Site Manager and Commissioning Team Leader Specific Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Written and verbal communication (including English).
  • Leading daily site meetings, organizing teams, attending internal conference calls and customer meetings.
  • Reporting to Project Manager and other stakeholders in a structured manner.
  • Familiar with MS Office Suite.
  • Managing teams and securing resource needs to deliver within scope, cost and timeline.
  • Planning and scheduling using MS Project.
Process Commissioning Engineer Specific Skills
  • Electrical troubleshooting.
  • Fluid mechanics.
  • Basic knowledge of instrumentation (flow, pressure, temperature, etc.).
