Hardware Developer – MCU

Business Unit: EPS Mobility

Role: Hardware Developer – MCU

As a Hardware Developer – MCU, you will be responsible for the design, development, integration and validation of microcontroller-based electronic hardware for automotive products, including ADAS, Electrification and Connectivity platforms. You will work closely with system, embedded software, power electronics, PCB, validation and product teams to develop robust, automotive-grade MCU solutions from concept through production. The role requires strong technical depth in microcontrollers, digital/analog electronics, interfaces, board bring-up, debugging and automotive hardware development processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • MCU Hardware Design & Architecture
  • Define MCU-based hardware architecture for automotive electronic control units and embedded products.
  • Select suitable microcontrollers/SoCs based on processing capability, memory, peripherals, safety, power, cost and automotive-grade requirements.
  • Design MCU power supply, clock, reset, boot, debug/programming and protection circuits.
  • Develop digital and analog interfaces around the MCU, including ADC, DAC, GPIO, PWM, timers, SPI, I2C, UART, CAN/CAN-FD, LIN, Ethernet and other relevant interfaces.
  • Work with automotive MCUs from major semiconductor vendors and evaluate device features, datasheets, reference designs and application notes.
  • Support hardware architecture for functional-safety-oriented products, including watchdogs, diagnostics, monitoring and safety mechanisms.
  • Consider EMC/EMI, thermal, signal-integrity, power-integrity and reliability requirements during hardware design.
  • Schematic, PCB & Prototype Development
  • Create and review schematics, component selections and hardware design documentation.
  • Work with PCB designers on component placement, routing, grounding, power distribution and high-speed signal considerations.
  • Review PCB layouts against design, EMC, thermal, manufacturability and reliability requirements.
  • Develop prototypes and support PCB assembly, rework and hardware modifications.
  • Perform board bring-up, power-on validation, MCU programming and peripheral-level verification.
  • Generate and maintain BOM, design specifications, interface documents and hardware test documentation.
  • Hardware Bring-up, Debugging & Validation
  • Perform first-level hardware bring-up and debug issues at board, MCU and peripheral level.
  • Use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, power supplies, CAN tools, debuggers/programmers and other laboratory equipment for troubleshooting.
  • Analyze hardware failures using schematics, datasheets, waveforms, logs and root-cause analysis techniques.
  • Validate MCU clocks, reset, power rails, communication interfaces, memory, ADC/PWM/GPIO and other peripherals.
  • Support environmental, electrical, EMC/EMI and reliability testing as required for automotive products.
  • Work with validation teams to define test plans, test cases, acceptance criteria and issue closure.
  • Embedded Software & System Integration
  • Collaborate closely with embedded software teams for MCU initialization, BSP, drivers, bootloader and peripheral integration.
  • Support hardware-software co-debugging during board bring-up and system integration.
  • Understand RTOS/bare-metal concepts, interrupt architecture, memory maps, boot sequence and peripheral configuration.
  • Support integration of communication stacks and diagnostics such as CAN/CAN-FD, UDS and automotive Ethernet where applicable.
  • Contribute to hardware-software interface specifications and resolve integration issues with cross-functional teams.
  • Automotive Standards & Functional Safety
  • Develop hardware in accordance with applicable automotive quality and safety processes.
  • Familiarity with ISO 26262 hardware development concepts, safety mechanisms, hardware metrics and diagnostic coverage.
  • Follow Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) development practices and maintain appropriate engineering work products.
  • Consider applicable EMC, environmental, electrical and automotive regulatory requirements during product development.
  • Support DFMEA, fault-tree analysis, design reviews and technical risk assessments.
