Job description

Jackson Hewitt's Human Resources team is hiring an HRIS Analyst to support the systems, data,

and compliance backbone of our hiring and employment lifecycle. This is a deliberately blended role. The majority of the work is analytical: building reports and dashboards, maintaining system configuration, auditing employee data, and improving the end-to-end technologies HR relies on. The balance is hands-on employment compliance, including review and audit of employment eligibility documentation, and full ownership of offboarding for the COO organization.

We are looking for strong technical talent first. Deep prior expertise in United States hiring regulation is welcome but not required; a demonstrated ability and genuine appetite to learn it is. The person in this seat will grow into the team's subject matter expert on the intersection of HR data and hiring compliance.

The ideal candidate

  • Is technically curious and equally comfortable writing a complex query and reading a regulation.
  • Treats data integrity as a discipline rather than a task, chasing small discrepancies to their source instead of rounding them off.
  • Is a self-motivated doer who can manage tight deadlines across a highly seasonal hiring cycle.
  • Communicates clearly with non-technical partners, translating system constraints and data findings into plain business language.
  • Handles highly sensitive and confidential employee matters with consistent discretion.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment and pivots quickly when priorities shift.

What you'll do here

Systems, Reporting, and Analytics

  • Design and maintain reports, queries, models, and dashboards that answer recurring and ad hoc questions from HR and business leaders.
  • Partner with subject matter experts to capture data and reporting requirements, noting gaps and inefficiencies, then translate them into durable, documented solutions.
  • Build and maintain system configuration tables, and support business process configuration and security administration within the HRIS.
  • Audit employee data on a scheduled cadence, identify discrepancies at the source, and drive corrections to completion.
  • Complete external audits and reporting for state, government, and other agencies.
  • Analyze end-to-end HR technologies to identify gaps and automation opportunities, and act on the improvements you find.
  • Document standard operating procedures, employee data reporting specifications, and a maintained data dictionary.
  • Troubleshoot UKG system issues and collaborate across teams to reach rapid resolution.

Employment Eligibility and Hiring Compliance

  • Develop working expertise in United States employment law as it applies to hiring, including Form I-9 and employment eligibility verification, E-Verify program rules, document retention and reverification requirements, and background check regulation.
  • Review new hire onboarding paperwork in electronic format for accuracy and completeness.
  • Track and perform audits and reviews of background check, I-9, and E-Verify documentation for validity across thousands of hires annually.
  • Build the reporting and monitoring that surfaces I-9 timing, reverification deadlines, and E-Verify case status before they become exceptions.
  • Conduct file audits to ensure new hire employee records are compliant and audit-ready.
  • Partner with HR and employment legal counsel on updates to onboarding paperwork, and implement approved changes in the HRIS.

Offboarding for the COO Organization

  • Own end-to-end offboarding for the COO organization, from termination notification through final closure of the system record.
  • Process terminations in the HRIS accurately and on time, ensuring effective dates, termination reasons, and rehire eligibility coding are correct.
  • Coordinate with Payroll, Benefits, IT, and management so final pay, benefits continuation, and systems access removal are completed on schedule.
  • Maintain and distribute offboarding status reporting, flagging delayed or at-risk exits to HR and business leadership.
  • Analyze exit and turnover data for the COO organization and surface trends to HR leadership.
  • Maintain and improve offboarding documentation, checklists, and workflows.

Skills you'll bring for success

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in data and/or business analytics.
  • 2+ years of hands-on HR system experience, including custom reporting, configuration, and data auditing.
  • Demonstrated ability to build reports and dashboards that connect information across multiple systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Master of attention to detail, with a successful track record of meeting deadlines with exemplary work.
  • Ability to work in various systems simultaneously.
  • Willingness and demonstrated ability to learn United States employment law related to hiring and employment eligibility documentation.
  • Must be able to effectively handle highly sensitive and confidential employee matters at all times.

Preferred

  • Experience working directly within UltiPro/UKG or Kronos.
  • Experience with Cognos and/or Power BI reporting, preferably within UKG/Kronos.
  • Experience using Python, JSON, SQL, or similar tools to extract and connect information across HR information systems.
  • Prior exposure to I-9, E-Verify, or background check administration.
  • Experience supporting high-volume or seasonal hiring.
