Job Description

HSE Engineer BESS PMC

The HSE Engineer BESS PMC will support site-level health, safety, environmental, and emergency preparedness monitoring activities for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System projects. The role is responsible for monitoring compliance with HSE requirements and battery safety protocols, with particular focus on electrical safety, fire readiness, energized systems, and emergency response.

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety Monitoring

• Verify implementation of PTW, LOTO, JSA/RA, electrical safety, arc-flash protection, and energized-work controls.
• Monitor lifting activities, battery handling procedures, and installation safety practices.
• Conduct routine HSE inspections and field observations.

Fire & Emergency Preparedness

• Review fire-system readiness and emergency response arrangements.
• Monitor battery thermal-event preparedness, exclusion zones, and emergency access requirements.
• Verify implementation of OEM battery safety requirements and fire prevention controls.

Compliance & Risk Management

• Track corrective actions arising from safety observations and inspections.
• Participate in energization and performance-test safety readiness reviews.
• Escalate safety risks, unsafe conditions, and high-risk activities.

Reporting & Governance

• Maintain HSE observation registers and corrective action trackers.
• Monitor leading indicators and safety performance trends.
• Prepare incident reports and safety readiness assessments.

Qualifications

Education

• Degree/Diploma in Engineering or Science with a Government-recognized Industrial Safety qualification.

Experience

• Experience in HSE management for electrical, industrial, renewable energy, BESS, or infrastructure projects.
• Experience supporting energized systems, battery installations, LOTO programs, and emergency preparedness.

Certifications

• NEBOSH IGC preferred.
• IOSH / ADIS / Equivalent Safety Qualification preferred.
• First Aid Certification.
• PTW & LOTO Training.
• Fire Safety and Incident Investigation Training desirable.
