Job summary

Thales Bangalore seeks a Head of Discipline - Mechanical to lead the Mechanical Engineering discipline, driving best practices and enabling competitive solutions across projects. You will coach and develop engineers, champion data-driven improvements, and oversee discipline activities in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.

The role requires deep expertise in mechanical engineering tools and standards, with a proven track record in design, modeling, and simulation.

Qualifications

• Graduate /master's in mechanical engineering with industry experience in mechanical design & development.
• Strong background in mathematics, science, and mechanical norms and standards.
• Expertise with mechanical technology and associated tools and processes (design, data management, BOM).
• Knowledge of simulations and tests relevant to mechanical engineering.

Responsibilities

• Inspire and catalyse best practices within the Mechanical Engineering discipline.
• Act as a point of contact on complex subjects and mentor the team.
• Drive discipline practices, tools deployment, and adoption of new technologies.
• Capitalize and share knowledge and assets (models, cost estimating, best practices).
• Foster continuous improvement through root cause analysis and new practices.
• Manage people, development, and ensure timely alignment with project needs.

Job Role: Head of Discipline -Mechanical

Responsibilities:

The Mechanical Engineering – Discipline Management Roles are responsible for inspiring and catalysing the improvement of best practices within the Mechanical Engineering discipline, ensuring that they are mastered effectively. They act as a privileged point of contact on complex subjects and take on an educational role so that their team can reach discipline excellence and deliver competitive solutions within a multidisciplinary environment.

They are managers-coaches serving discipline’s engineers and offering a diverse and inclusive environment with Hungry Humble Aware values. They are the guardians of an engineering discipline excellence in a learning environment which contribute to highly competitive realizations (Quality, Attractiveness, Cost, Lead time).

As a Mechanical Engineering - Discipline Management Role within Thales, you will:

• Take in charge the Discipline Practices and Tools tailoring and deployment (incl. digitisation, automation, data management) across Projects and Products Be responsible for the adoption of new technologies.
• Ensure the capitalisation and sharing of knowledge and assets (building blocks, cost estimating models, best practices, etc.)
• Foster continuous improvement based on root cause analysis, problem solving, new practice deployment, …
• Manage people within your discipline and ensure their development (skills management, coaching, career development, mindset), the adequacy with the expected needs (quality and quantity) at the right time and the allocation to the Bids and Projects
• Oversee mechanical activities and be plunged into a challenging environment, engage and develop team through the use of collaborative work and challenging approaches
• Be Innovative & support continuous Improvement
• You are able to empower and unite employees around clear objectives by acting as a coach and servant leader, which mobilises influencing and “team first” skills and You have substantial knowledge of Mechanical Engineering
• Perform technical reviews associated with their discipline on Bids/Products and Projects Ensure Operational Subject Matter Experts allocate part of their time to coach engineering people and to train people about the Mechanical Engineering activities

Skill, Qualification & Experience :

• Graduate /master's in mechanical engineering with :20 years of Industry experience in Mechanical Design & Development.
• Good technical background in mathematics, science, and computer science, with a great knowledge of Mechanical laws, norms and standards.
• Expertise with mechanical technology and associated tools, methods and processes Mechanical design: DS Catia, DS Solidworks, DS Smarteam, PTC Creo, PTC PDMLink, Siemens NX, Autodesk AutoCAD, CAD Model, Drawings, Bill of Materials, Data Management.
• Mechanical simulation: Ansys Mechanical, DS Abaqus, DS Dymola, MSC Nastran Structural analysis (static, modal analysis, shocks, vibrations), Mechanical tests correlation, Design optimization, Strength analysis
• Mechanical tests: Shocks and vibration tests, Qualification procedure. Demonstrate a strong desire for continuous improvement and a capacity to develop a strategic vision: you are able to integrate and even anticipate the various elements of your environment in order to guide the team through the challenges prompted by competitiveness.
