Job summary

Thales Group in Bangalore is seeking a skilled mechanical design engineer to contribute to civil and defence projects. You will carry out mechanical design in a team and ensure designs meet manufacturing, assembly and integration requirements.

Applicants should have 4-8 years' experience in regulated sectors, proficiency in CATIA V5 and PLM Enovia, and knowledge of GD&T and FEA tools; join a global technology leader driving aerospace and cyber solutions.

Qualifications

• Experience 4-8 years in highly regulated sectors (Space, Defence or Aerospace).
• CATIA V5 and PLM software (Enovia preferred).
• Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering principles.
• Understanding of Engineering Development lifecycles.
• Perform hand calculations to validate structural/thermal design.
• Ability to participate in PDR and CDR reviews.
• Ensure designs meet manufacturing, assembly and integration requirements.
• Experience with BOM creation and Engineering Change processes.
• Knowledge of drawing standards and Geometric Tolerancing; familiarity with FEA tools.

Responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical design activities in a team environment with other engineers.
• Work with production and procurement to deliver cost effective, manufacturable designs.
• Provide trials and integration support for new designs.
• Monitor design costs and lead times against targets.
• Contribute to product development Change Management.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, fabrication, sheet metal, surface treatments.

Required Skills & Experience

• Experience- 4yrs-8yrs
• Demonstrable experience in operating within highly regulated sectors, ideally Space, Defence or Aerospace.
• Working knowledge of Catia V5 and PLM software (Enovia preferred).
• Fundamental understanding of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering principals
• Good understanding of Engineering Development lifecycles.
• Perform Hand calculations to validate the structural and thermal design
• Perform concept review and design review (PDR, CDR)
• Good general knowledge of mechanical design and conception
• Ensure designs meet manufacturing, assembly, and integration requirements.
• Good experience in BOM creation and Engineering Change processes (with consideration given to implications of changes managing through the process)
• Knowledge of relevant drawing standards Working knowledge of Geometric Tolerancing best practice Familiarity with FEA tools.
