Job summary

Thales in Bengaluru is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (CATIA) to contribute to hardware, software and systems engineering for civil and defence sectors. You will deliver robust mechanical solutions, participate in design reviews, and ensure manufacturability while complying with strict space and aerospace standards.

The role requires 4–8 years in regulated domains, hands-on CATIA V5 skills, BOM/ECN experience, and strong problem-solving.

Qualifications

• 4–8 years' experience in highly regulated sectors such as space or defence.
• Proficient in CATIA V5 and PLM software (Enovia preferred).
• Solid understanding of mechanical design fundamentals and development lifecycles.
• Experience with BOM creation and ECN processes.
• Knowledge of drawing standards and geometric tolerancing.

Responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical design activities in a team environment with other engineers.
• Collaborate with production and procurement to produce cost effective, easy to manufacture design solutions.
• Support trials and system integration activities.
• Monitor compliance of designs with target costs and lead times.
• Contribute to change management and product lifecycle documentation.

Required Skills & Experience

• Experience- 4yrs-8yrs Demonstrable experience in operating within highly regulated sectors, ideally Space, Defence or Aerospace .
• Working knowledge of Catia V5 and PLM software (Enovia preferred).
• Fundamental understanding of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering principals
• Good understanding of Engineering Development lifecycles.
• Perform Hand calculations to validate the structural and thermal design
• Perform concept review and design review (PDR, CDR)
• Good general knowledge of mechanical design and conception
• Ensure designs meet manufacturing, assembly, and integration requirements.
• Good experience in BOM creation and Engineering Change processes (with consideration given to implications of changes managing through the process)
• Knowledge of relevant drawing standards
• Working knowledge of Geometric Tolerancing best practice
• Familiarity with FEA tools.
• Key Skills CATIA V5 ,DFM, Jigs and Fixtures Structural analysis (static, modal analysis, shocks, vibrations), Stack Up Analysis SOLIDWORKS, AUTOCAD, Thermal and Flow Analysis Weight Analysis
