Senior Microsoft 365 Engineering & Reliability Lead

Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Microsoft 365 Engineering professional to lead the engineering strategy and ensure the reliability of our global collaboration ecosystem. This pivotal position encompasses the full lifecycle management of critical platforms including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, Teams Voice, Slack, Microsoft Defender, and Copilot. The ideal candidate will be responsible for configuring, securing, and optimizing these environments to facilitate seamless communication and collaboration for a worldwide workforce. The role emphasizes robust messaging security, the governed integration of artificial intelligence, and the maintenance of high service availability across a complex, regulated IT landscape.

Responsibilities

• Platform Engineering & Lifecycle Management: Oversee the end-to-end administration of Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive, managing configuration, governance frameworks, and system lifecycle updates.
  
• Collaboration Architecture: Design and maintain the Microsoft Teams and Slack environments, including the implementation of governance policies, application integrations, and enhancement of the overall user collaboration experience.
  
• Voice & Telephony Solutions: Manage the configuration and operational support for Teams Phone and Voice services, ensuring optimal calling policies, numbering plans, and call quality metrics.
  
• Threat Defense Operations: Serve as the primary operator for Microsoft Defender for Office 365 (Level 2), handling anti-phishing strategies, Safe Links and Safe Attachments configuration, and executing rapid threat response protocols.
  
• AI Governance & Deployment: Lead the deployment and governance of Microsoft 365 Copilot, managing licensing structures, data readiness assessments, permission models, and ensuring safe, compliant adoption.
  
• Compliance & Information Protection: Enforce retention schedules, Data Loss Prevention (DLP) rules, and information protection policies across the entire Microsoft 365 estate, ensuring alignment with PCI DSS and broader security standards.
  
• Automation & Integration: Drive administrative efficiency by developing automation scripts using PowerShell and leveraging the Microsoft Graph API for complex management tasks.
  
• Incident Management: Function as the definitive third‑line escalation point for resolving critical incidents and problems related to Microsoft 365 and collaboration tools.
  
• Service Optimization: Continuously monitor service health and user adoption metrics to identify opportunities for enhancing reliability, security posture, and the overall user experience.
  

Requirements

• Core Engineering Expertise: Demonstrated deep, hands‑on experience in engineering Microsoft 365 services, specifically Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive.
  
• Collaboration Administration: Proven track record in administering Microsoft Teams, with specific expertise in Teams Phone and Voice configurations.
  
• Enterprise Slack Experience: Prior experience managing and supporting Slack within a large-scale enterprise environment.
  
• Security Proficiency: Working knowledge of Microsoft Defender for Office 365, including anti‑phishing tactics, Safe Links/Attachments management, and incident response.
  
• AI Implementation: Practical experience in deploying and governing Microsoft 365 Copilot, or a demonstrated strong readiness to lead such initiatives.
  
• Compliance Knowledge: Solid understanding of Microsoft 365 compliance features, including retention policies, DLP, and information protection mechanisms.
  
• Technical Scripting: Advanced proficiency in PowerShell scripting and the Microsoft Graph API for automation and management.
  
• Regulated Environment Experience: Previous work within regulated industries or ITIL‑based change‑controlled environments is essential.
  
• Certifications: Possession of relevant Microsoft 365 certifications (e.g., MS-700 or MS-102) is highly desirable.
