Responsibilities include steering the engineering life cycle from concept to commissioning, producing SLDs/GA drawings, selecting equipment, and ensuring compliance

Qualifications

• Must have BE/BTech in Electrical Engineering.
• ME/MTech in Power Systems is preferred.
• Experience with high voltage substations and EPC projects is expected.

Responsibilities

• Lead the engineering cycle of AIS/GIS switchyards from concept to commissioning.
• Develop and review SLDs, GA drawings, layouts, and detailed engineering docs for 220kV & 400kV substations.
• Evaluate equipment like circuit breakers and surge arresters and approve design deliverables.
• Coordinate with clients, vendors, and internal teams to meet specs and timelines.
• Provide technical support during procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning phases.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in FATs and site clarifications.

Job Summary

The Senior Manager Switchyard Engineering will lead the design, engineering, and execution of high voltage switchyard projects (220kV and 400kV). The role demands technical expertise in substation design, project management, and cross-functional coordination to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of engineering packages in accordance with national and international standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the complete engineering cycle of AIS/GIS switchyards from concept to commissioning.
• Develop and review single line diagrams (SLDs), general arrangement (GA) drawings, layouts, and detailed engineering documentation for 220kV & 400kV substations.
• Evaluate and select equipment such as circuit breakers, disconnectors, instrument transformers, surge arresters, etc.
• Review and approve design deliverables from consultants/vendors including BOM, electrical schematics, and control & protection philosophies.
• Interface with clients, consultants, vendors, and internal project teams to ensure compliance with project specifications and timelines.
• Coordinate with civil, protection, SCADA, and telecom teams for integration of engineering activities.
• Ensure adherence to relevant IS/IEC standards, grid codes, and safety regulations.
• Provide technical support during procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning phases.
• Conduct technical risk assessments and propose mitigation strategies.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers within the switchyard engineering team.
• Participate in design reviews, factory acceptance tests (FAT), and site technical clarifications.

Key Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of high-voltage (HV) switchyard systems AIS & GIS (220kV, 400kV).
• Familiarity with international and Indian standards (IEC, IS, IEEE, CEA, CBIP).
• Proficiency in engineering tools such as AutoCAD, ETAP, DigSILENT, or similar.
• Experience in handling EPC projects or utility-scale substations.
• Strong project management, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams and vendors.
• Awareness of emerging technologies in substation automation and digital substations.

Educational Qualifications

• B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (Mandatory)
• M.E./M.Tech in Power Systems or related field (Preferred)

Preferred Industry Background

• Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D)
• EPC companies in the power sector
