Job summary

Biogenomics is seeking a Head of Procurement to lead end-to-end procurement for greenfield and brownfield initiatives, CAPEX and OPEX spends, and multi-site operations. The role demands senior leadership across global supplier networks, strong GMP knowledge, and cross-functional collaboration with QA, regulatory, and engineering teams.

The candidate will drive procurement strategies, ensure compliance, manage audits, and optimize costs while maintaining supply continuity in a biotechnology

Qualifications

  • Minimum 15+ years of experience in Procurement, Supply Chain, or Strategic Sourcing within biotech/pharma manufacturing.
  • Leadership experience in managing procurement for multi-location manufacturing and corporate operations.
  • Hands-on procurement planning for Greenfield projects (plant setup, labs, utilities, equipment, cleanroom, commissioning).
  • Experience in Brownfield expansions (capacity upgrades, tech upgrades, debottlenecking, modernization).
  • Experience in CAPEX and OPEX procurement (plants, machinery, materials, services, EPC, logistics, MRO).
  • Ability to develop procurement strategies aligned with growth, cost optimization, and continuity.

Responsibilities

  • Vendor identification, qualification, development, performance management and strategic sourcing at domestic and international levels.
  • Manage supplier audits, quality assessments, vendor qualification, and supplier risk management.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Engineering, Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, and Project teams for compliance of procured materials and services.
  • Participate in regulatory and customer audits (EMA, USFDA, MHRA, WHO-GMP, and other global inspections).
  • Establish supplier quality agreements, change control, corrective actions, and vendor performance review frameworks.
  • Oversee import procurement, global sourcing, Incoterms, and regulatory requirements for international procurement.

Head - Procurement

Key Responsibilities & Requirements

1. End-to-End Procurement Leadership for Greenfield, Brownfield, CAPEX & OPEX Operations

  • Minimum 15+ years of progressive experience in Procurement, Supply Chain, or Strategic Sourcing within the Biotechnology, Biopharmaceutical, Life Sciences, Vaccine, Fermentation, or Pharmaceutical manufacturing industry.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing the complete Procurement function for multi-location manufacturing and corporate operations.
  • Hands-on expertise in procurement planning and execution for Greenfield projects including plant setup, laboratory establishment, utilities, engineering infrastructure, process equipment, cleanroom systems, and facility commissioning.
  • Experience in Brownfield expansion projects involving capacity enhancement, technology upgrades, debottlenecking, and facility modernization.
  • Strong exposure to management of both CAPEX procurement (Plant & Machinery, Process Equipment, Utilities, Engineering Services, EPC Contractors, Automation Systems) and OPEX procurement (Raw Materials, Consumables, Chemicals, Packaging Materials, Services, MRO, Logistics, and General Procurement).
  • Ability to develop procurement strategies aligned with business growth, cost optimization, project timelines, and operational continuity.

2. Vendor Management, Quality Compliance & Audit Readiness

  • Extensive experience in supplier identification, qualification, development, performance management, and strategic sourcing at domestic and international levels.
  • Strong capability in managing supplier audits, quality assessments, vendor qualification programs, and supplier risk management processes.
  • Experience in working closely with Quality Assurance, Engineering, Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, and Project teams to ensure compliance of procured materials and services.
  • Proven involvement in regulatory and customer audits including EMA, USFDA, MHRA, WHO-GMP, and other global regulatory inspections.
  • Ability to establish robust supplier quality agreements, change control mechanisms, corrective actions, and vendor performance review frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of import procurement, global sourcing, international commercial terms (Incoterms), and regulatory requirements associated with international procurement.

3. Strong GMP Knowledge and Procurement Compliance

  • Thorough understanding of GMP, GDP, Data Integrity, Quality Management Systems, and regulatory expectations applicable to biotechnology and pharmaceutical operations.
  • Expertise in GMP-compliant procurement processes, policies, SOPs, vendor qualification procedures, and documentation practices.
  • Experience in handling procurement documentation required during regulatory inspections and customer audits.
  • Ability to ensure procurement activities comply with company quality systems, regulatory requirements, and internal governance standards.
  • Knowledge of procurement controls related to change management, deviation management, supplier qualification, traceability, and documentation retention.

4. Leadership, Communication & Stakeholder Management

  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience managing large procurement teams across multiple sites and functions.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to effectively engage with senior leadership, project teams, global suppliers, consultants, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, commercial, and decision‑making abilities with a focus on cost optimization, risk mitigation, and supply assurance.
  • Effective presentation skills with the ability to present procurement strategies, sourcing initiatives, savings programs, and project updates to executive leadership.

5. Industry Background

  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience from reputed Biotechnology and Life Sciences organizations.
  • Candidates from Biocon, Syngene, Bharat Biotech, Serum Institute of India, Biological E, Intas Biopharmaceuticals, Dr. Reddy's Biologics, Lupin Biotech, or similar biotechnology/pharmaceutical organizations will be preferred.
  • Exposure to biologics, vaccines, fermentation, cell culture, recombinant products, or advanced biotechnology manufacturing environments will be an added advantage.
