Job summary

Uberlife Consulting in Chennai seeks a Head of Procurement with 15+ years of construction procurement experience to lead end-to-end sourcing for major projects and ensure timeliness and quality.

You will develop strategies, manage vendors and contracts, drive cost optimization, and collaborate with design, planning, finance and site teams to meet project objectives.

Qualifications

• Civil Engineering degree required (B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering preferred).
• 15+ years of relevant construction procurement experience.
• Experience with large institutional, commercial, residential, or infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of procurement for civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, IT, security systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end procurement for construction projects.
• Develop procurement strategies to meet cost, quality, and schedule objectives.
• Plan procurement of civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), HVAC, IT, security systems, and other packages.
• Prepare procurement schedules aligned with project timelines.
• Identify, evaluate, pre-qualify, and develop vendors and subcontractors.
• Float tenders, evaluate techno-commercial bids, negotiate terms, and finalize contracts.
• Ensure timely procurement of materials and award of work packages without impacting schedules.
• Monitor contract performance and resolve commercial issues during execution.

Title: Head - Procurement

Key Responsibilities :

• Lead the end-to-end procurement function for all construction projects.
• Develop and implement procurement strategies to achieve cost, quality, and schedule objectives
• Plan and execute procurement of civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), HVAC, fire protection, elevators, IT, security systems, and other project-related packages.
• Prepare procurement schedules aligned with project timelines.
• Identify, evaluate, pre-qualify, and develop vendors and subcontractors.
• Float tenders, evaluate techno-commercial bids, negotiate commercial terms, and finalize contracts.
• Ensure timely procurement of materials and award of work packages without impacting project schedules.
• Monitor contract performance and resolve commercial issues during execution.
• Ensure compliance with company procurement policies, statutory requirements, and ethical business practices.
• Work closely with project, design, engineering, planning, finance, and site teams to meet project objectives.
• Drive value engineering and cost optimization initiatives without compromising quality.
• Maintain procurement MIS, contract documentation, and vendor performance records.

Technical Expertise :

• Strong knowledge of construction materials, specifications, and market trends.
• Thorough understanding of civil construction materials including cement, steel, concrete, aggregates, finishes, waterproofing, doors, windows, glazing, flooring, roofing, and interior materials.
• Hands-on experience in procurement and contract finalization for: Civil works
• Mechanical works
• Electrical works
• HVAC systems
• Plumbing and Fire Fighting systems
• IT infrastructure and ELV systems
• Security and Building Management Systems (BMS)
• Interior fit-outs and specialized works
• Strong understanding of item-rate contracts, lump-sum contracts, turnkey contracts, rate agreements, and subcontract agreements.
• Ability to review technical specifications, BOQs, drawings, and commercial terms.

Contract Management :

• Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize construction contracts and purchase orders.
• Ensure proper allocation of contractual risks and obligations.
• Manage contract amendments, variations, claims, and dispute resolution.
• Ensure contractual compliance throughout project execution.

Requirements :

• Education:
• Civil Engineering graduate (B.E./B. Tech in Civil Engineering preferred).
• Experience: 1518 years of relevant experience in construction procurement and contract management.
• Skills: Experience in handling procurement for large Institutional, commercial, residential, or infrastructure projects.
