Job summary

Clean Electric is seeking a Hardware Test Engineer in Pune (on-site) to lead prototype bring-up, perform SI/PI measurements, and drive reliability testing for battery and EV hardware. You will collaborate with R&D, Firmware, Quality, Production, and suppliers to ensure robust, compliant hardware before production releases.

The role requires strong problem-solving, excellent communication, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment at a growing battery tech startup.

Qualifications

• 25 years of relevant experience in hardware testing, validation, electronics testing, power electronics, EV, battery, automotive, or embedded systems.
• B.E./B.Tech/Diploma in Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechatronics or a related engineering discipline.

Responsibilities

• Prototype Bring-Up: Lead the initial power-up of prototype Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs) and verify core power rails, clocks, and basic system functionality.
• Electrical & Signal Integrity: Perform SI and PI measurements on high-speed interfaces using high-bandwidth oscilloscopes.
• Root Cause Analysis: Troubleshoot circuit failures to the component level and provide feedback to design engineers.
• Stress & Endurance Testing: Design and execute environmental validation testing, including thermal cycling.
• Compliance Pre-screening: Assist with EMC/EMI and product safety regulatory testing.
• Automation Scripting: Develop and maintain automated tests to control lab instruments and log data.
• Test Fixture Design: Design test fixtures, bed-of-nails adapters, and cable harnesses for lab/production testing.
• Documentation: Write test plans, regression procedures, and validation reports.

Role Overview

The Hardware Test Engineer will be responsible for testing, validation, troubleshooting, and performance evaluation of electronic hardware and power electronics products. The role involves developing and executing test plans, conducting functional and reliability testing, identifying hardware failures, performing root-cause analysis, and supporting design improvements. The engineer will work closely with R&D, Firmware, Quality, Production, and Supplier teams to ensure products meet defined technical, quality, safety, and reliability requirements before production and customer release.

Role Description and Key Responsibilities

The role involves tasks including but not limited to -

Prototype Bring-Up: Lead the initial power-up of prototype Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs) and verify core power rails, clocks, and basic system functionality.

• Electrical & Signal Integrity: Perform signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) measurements on high-speed interfaces (e.g., PCIe, USB, I2C, SPI, DDR memory) using high-bandwidth oscilloscopes.
• Root Cause Analysis: Troubleshoot circuit failures down to the component level, isolate hardware design flaws, and provide actionable feedback to design engineers.
• Stress & Endurance Testing: Design and execute environmental validation testing, including thermal cycling.
• Compliance Pre-screening: Assist with regulatory compliance testing for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC/EMI) and product safety.
• Automation Scripting: Develop and maintain automated test to control lab instruments and log test data.
• Test Fixture Design: Design custom functional test fixtures, bed-of-nails adapters, and cable harnesses to streamline repetitive lab and production testing.
• Documentation: Write detailed test plans, regression procedures, and comprehensive validation reports to track product readiness.
