Job description

BTL India is looking for a Hardware Test Engineer to verify embedded hardware and subsystems against hardware design and system design specifications. The role focuses on understanding hardware architecture and isolation diagrams, designing subsystem-level tests, and validating electrical behavior and communication interfaces using laboratory instruments. Experience in the medical device or healthcare domain is preferred, but not mandatory.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As part of the medical product testing team, you will plan, identify, and execute system-level testing activities in an embedded product development environment to meet project goals through the following actions:

  • Understand embedded product hardware architecture, subsystem boundaries, interfaces, and isolation diagrams.
  • Review Hardware Design Documents (HDD), System Design Documents (SDD), schematics, interface specifications, and related design documentation to derive test scenarios and test cases.
  • Plan, design, prepare, and execute subsystem-level hardware and firmware verification tests against defined design specifications.
  • Verify communication interfaces and protocols such as UART, SPI, I²C, RS-232/RS-485, and Ethernet, as applicable to the product.
  • Use laboratory instruments such as oscilloscopes, logic analysers, digital multimeters, and function generators to measure signals, validate timing, and investigate electrical or communication issues.
  • Verify signal integrity, electrical characteristics, interface timing, state transitions, and fault/error handling against specified requirements.
  • Set up test benches, fixtures, and measurement arrangements appropriate to the subsystem under test.
  • Record test procedures, configurations, measured results, evidence, and deviations in a clear and reproducible manner.
  • Investigate failures, support root-cause analysis with hardware/firmware design teams, retest fixes, and maintain defect records.
  • Maintain traceability to design requirements and contribute to test coverage reviews, early defect identification, and process improvement.
  • Follow applicable safety, quality, and regulatory procedures and support project timelines.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

QUALIFICATION:

  • Engineering degree or above in Electrical & Electronics (EEE), Electronics & Communication (ECE), Biomedical Engineering, Bioelectronics, or equivalent.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCY: (ESSENTIALS)
  • 4–5 years of professional experience in embedded hardware, firmware-interface, or subsystem verification/testing.
  • Hands‑on experience using oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and digital multimeters; experience with function generators is an advantage.
  • Ability to interpret hardware schematics, hardware architecture, isolation diagrams, and interface documentation.
  • Experience deriving test cases from Hardware Design Documents (HDD), System Design Documents (SDD), and technical specifications.
  • Practical knowledge of communication protocol verification/validation for embedded systems.
  • Understanding of analog/digital electronics, microcontroller‑based systems, and hardware/software interfaces.
  • Experience with structured test execution, technical result reporting, and defect lifecycle management using Jira or an equivalent tool.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE (DESIRABLES)
  • Experience in medical device/healthcare domain and familiarity with medical industry standards is highly preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience using Test management tools such as Code beamer or Doors for requirement traceability.
  • Working knowledge of agile development methodologies.
  • Basic exposure to scripting or test automation (e.g. Python) for embedded environments.
