Job summary

Hitachi Energy in Chennai, India seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer to own substation engineering deliverables. You will design layouts, grounding and protection schemes, and perform data-sheet verifications for primary equipment. 5+ years in electrical engineering with CAD tool expertise are required.

You will collaborate across international teams, ensure compliance with standards, and contribute to quality and efficiency improvements while maintaining strong communication in English.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
• Proficiency in CAD design tools listed above (BIM Tools, Navisworks, MicroStation/AutoCAD, Revit).
• Knowledge of IEEE, IEC standards and substation tendering and project engineering.
• Individual contributor with the ability to work independently on complex projects.
• Broad knowledge of related disciplines within the organization.
• Proactive, adaptable, and capable of collaborating across countries.
• Strong English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage projects and processes with limited supervision.

• Prepare substation layouts, grounding, lightning design drawings, and cable routings.
• Evaluate auxiliary design aspects like LVAC/LVDC, battery sizing, and cable sizing.
• Verify technical data sheets for primary equipment (breakers, disconnectors, transformers).
• Participate in vendor evaluations and FAT/SAT activities when needed.
• Provide risk assessments and propose engineering improvements to reduce effort.
• Plan, implement, and continuously improve quality systems and Opex initiatives.

The opportunity:

Responsibilities may include Managing projects / processes, working independently with limited supervision. Coaching and reviewing the work of lower-level professionals. Problems faced are difficult and sometimes complex.

How you’ll make an impact:

• You will be in Primary Engineering Deliverables. Experience in handling complete Engineering deliverables for AIS & GIS projects, Exposure to International experience & Standards IEC, IEEE & AS.

• You will be substation layouts and section drawings, Grounding system drawings, Lightning system design, drawings, Cable routings, Cable tray routings, Clearance drawings.

• To Understanding of auxiliary design aspects of substations, such as LVAC / LVDC supplies, Cable sizing, Battery & Battery Charger Sizing, etc.

• You will be contributing in technical data sheets verification of primary equipment. Knowledge of primary equipment, such as circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, instrument transformers, power transformers, etc.

• You will offer Vendor Evaluations, FAT / SAT of primary equipment, system as and when needed.

• To provide technical risk and opportunity assessment and validation Innovative ideas to reduce Engineering effort.

• To Plan, implement, review and continuously improvise quality system & follow Opex initiatives.

• Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your Background:

• Required bachelors in Electrical Engineering with minimum 5 years of relevant experience.

• Proficiency in required CAD design tools (BIM Tools, BIM 360, Navisworks, MicroStation / AutoCAD, AutoCAD REVIT, 3D competence).

• Knowledge of relevant international standards ex. IEEE, IEC etc. and in substation tendering and project engineering activities (technical & commercial).

• You will be Individual contributors using in-depth knowledge in a specific area to execute complex or specialized projects / challenges often thinking independently to challenge traditional solutions.

• Comprehensive knowledge of related disciplines in the organization.

• Works independently, applying established standards, Dynamic and Proactive, willing to grow in the organization, team player, ready to play the role across the different countries.

• Excellent English speaker, good communication skills.
