Job summary

Hitachi Energy in Chennai is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to lead secondary engineering for HV/MV/LV projects, ensuring safety, quality and regulatory compliance from concept to completion.

You will own design activities, coordinate with cross‑functional teams, prepare SLDs, schematics, BOMs and SCADA topology documentation, and support customer approvals and on‑site reviews. This role calls for leadership, cost awareness and delivery excellence.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5–10 years of electrical engineering experience.
• Expertise in AIS & GIS secondary designs.
• Panel engineering: layouts, circuit diagrams, wiring tables.
• Knowledge of Digital Substation Architecture and SCADA.
• Experience in HV/MV/LV equipment design, supply and installation.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder convincing ability.

Job Description:

The opportunity:

Design authority for an engineering discipline with low to medium complexity. Complete assignments on small

projects or portions of larger projects, cost-effectively and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards

and safety requirements. Based on technical specifications from end customers and inputs from R&D project team,

prepare Protection principle SLD, Schematics, SCADA topology, Bill of materials, RFQs, vetting of vendor offers, Eng. Hours estimation, visit to project sites, technical risk assessment and opportunity evaluation etc.

How you’ll make an impact:

• Ownership of complete secondary engineering activities.
• Co-ordination with other departments – lead, primary, SCM, C&R suppliers etc. for design progress & completion.
• Plan, implement, review and continuously improvise quality system. Ensure the Safety through design principles which meant for complete project lifecycle.
• Responsible for obtaining customer approvals for the designs and drawings. Technical risk and opportunity assessment and validation. Take part in customer meetings / site visits. Estimation of engineering efforts.
• Review of requirement specification / technical specifications and preparation of Design Intent Document.
• Preparation and review of Protection SLD showing principles, relays and meters, Functional Design Standards. Descriptions, Signal list, trip matrix, Logics & Interlocks.
• Review of Vendor drawings and documents (technical vetting of Control & Relay panels, Auxiliary System).
• Preparation of schematic diagrams for the interface’s equipment in Control & Relay Panel scheme thus providing completeness. Preparation and review of circuit diagrams. Preparation and review of Cable block diagram, Cable Schedule & BoQ estimation for ordering.
• Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your Background:

• Graduates in Electrical engineering should have minimum 5-10 years of experience in relevant areas of work.
• Expertise in AIS & GIS secondary designs.
• Expertise in Panel Engineering (Layouts, circuit diagram, wiring table, terminal table etc.,)
• Good knowledge on Digital Substation Architecture & products. Good knowledge in preparation of SCADA architecture.
• Must have experience in project execution of products related to Design, supply installation of HV/MV/LV equipment, rectifiers, panels.
• Should possess strong leadership skills and ability to convince stakeholders in the interest of the project. Ability to work under pressure to deliver the projects with time, cost and quality.
• Innovative and able to bring new ideas to improve engineering quality, cost, and delivery.
