Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead complete engineering deliverables for AIS and GIS projects in Chennai, India. You will design substations, including layouts, grounding, and protective schemes, and verify equipment data sheets to meet IEC/IEEE standards.

The role requires 7–12 years’ experience with CAD tools like BIM, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and Revit. You will work independently while collaborating with teams across countries, ensuring quality and regulatory

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or diploma in Electrical Engineering with 7–12 years’ experience.
• Proficiency in CAD tools: BIM Tools, BIM 360, Navisworks, Microstation/AutoCAD, AutoCAD REVIT, 3D modeling.
• Knowledge of IEC/IEEE standards; substation tendering and project engineering.
• Independent contributor with depth in a specialized area.
• Broad understanding across related disciplines; willing to grow.
• Strong ownership; team player across countries; good English.

Responsibilities

• Deliver complete engineering deliverables for AIS & GIS projects to international standards.
• Prepare substation layouts, grounding, lightning, cable routings and cable tray routes.
• Design auxiliary systems: LVAC/LVDC, cable sizing, battery sizing.
• Verify technical data sheets for primary equipment like breakers and transformers.
• Support FAT/SAT activities for primary equipment as needed.
• Assess technical risk and propose engineering efficiency improvements.
• Uphold quality systems and comply with applicable regulations.

Job description

How you’ll make an impact:

• Primary Engineering Deliverables. Experience in handling complete Engineering deliverables for AIS & GIS projects, Exposure to International experience & Standards IEC, IEEE & AS.

• Substation layouts and section drawings, Grounding system drawings, Lightning system design, drawings, Cable routings, Cable tray routings, Clearance drawings.

• Understanding of auxiliary design aspects of substations, such as LVAC / LVDC supplies, Cable sizing, Battery & Battery Charger Sizing, etc.

• Technical data sheets verification of primary equipment. Knowledge of primary equipment, such as circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, instrument transformers, power transformers, etc.

• Vendor Offer Evaluations. FAT / SAT of primary equipment, system as and when needed.

• Technical risk and opportunity assessment and validation. Innovative ideas to reduce Engineering effort.

• Plan, implement, review and continuously improvise quality system & follow Opex initiatives.

• Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background:

• Bachelor’s or diploma degree in Electrical Engineering, with 7 - 12 years’ experience.

• Proficiency in required CAD design tools (BIM Tools, BIM 360, Navisworks, Microstation / AutoCAD, AutoCAD REVIT, 3D competence).

• Knowledge of relevant International standards ex. IEEE, IEC,etc. Knowledge in substation tendering and project engineering activities (technical & commercial).

• Individual contributor using in-depth knowledge in a specific area to execute complex or specialized projects / challenges often thinking independently to challenge traditional solutions.

• Comprehensive knowledge of related disciplines in the organization.

• Works independently, applying established standards. Dynamic and Proactive, willing to grow in the organization.

• Team player, ready to play the role across the different countries. High level of ownership.

• Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required.
