Job summary

Huron in Bengaluru seeks a Senior Manager - Medical Coding to oversee hospital and professional coding operations, ICD/CPT assignment, and quality reviews. Lead a large coding team, drive metrics, and collaborate with IT and clinical leadership.

Excellent communication, strong governance, and deep encoder tool expertise (3M, Trucode) are essential. U.S. travel may be required. This role focuses on optimizing coding workflows, improving accuracy, and reducing revenue leakage.

Qualifications

• Graduate or Post Graduate in Life Science, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Zoology or Microbiology.
• Six Sigma Black/Green Belt certification.
• PMP Certification is an advantage.
• 12+ years of industry experience, with 2+ years in managing large coding teams.
• CPC – Certified Coding Professional or CCS – Certified Coding Specialist.
• US Travel Visa and transition experience will be an advantage.

As a General Manager - Medical Coding, you will be responsible for the management of hospital and Professional coding operations including ICD and CPT code assignment, case abstracting, charge capture, pre-bill quality reviews and other billing edit work queues.

Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and strong technical and problem solving skills are essential aspects of this role.

• Oversees the daily operations of the coding team including workload and staffing; hiring, disciplining, and performance appraisals; training; and monitoring quality of work.
• Serves as a coding subject matter expert for the organization, serving on an array of business operations and clinical committees.
• Accountable for active daily management of Discharged Not Billed (DNB) work queues to assure targets are consistently met.
• Assures appropriate staffing levels and adherence to fiscal targets.
• Participates in the formulation of objectives and strategies for integrating coded clinical information to support goals for patient care, teaching, research, and optimizing management of resources.
• Develops and manages key coding performance indicators and metrics.
• Develops and oversees a comprehensive quality assurance and productivity program for coding staff.
• Assures coding staff is provided with the technology and education to support optimal performance.
• Collaborates with leadership to optimize workflows and EHR technology.
• Manages Single Path Coding and Coding managers, and collaborates with Coding Education and Quality Manager.
• Directs the preparation of routine and custom reports to management and clinical leadership.
• Demonstrates in-depth working knowledge of ICD, CPT, MS-DRGs and APR-DRGs code classifications/groupers with ability to analyze and trend key metrics including CMI.
• Assures the accurate and timely completion of all coding related activities.
• Provides input to coding and medical record documentation guidelines to assure compatibility and compliance with all regulatory, third party and SHC policies.
• Provides input to the direction for the establishment and maintenance of documentation standards and policies and procedures related to coding activities.
• Collaborates with other key stakeholders in the creation of effective programs and initiatives as related to physician quality profiles and financial performance.
• Oversees and manages the coding denial management activities.
• Communicates clearly, proactively and concisely with all key stakeholders.
• Hands-on experience in any Encoder tools specific to Hospital coding, such as 3M, Trucode, etc., is preferred.
• Achieve the set targets and cooperate with the respective team in achieving the set Turnaround Time, keeping an elevated level of accuracy
• Maintains a high degree of professional and ethical standards
• Focuses on continuous improvement by working on projects that enable customers to arrest revenue leakage while complying with the standards.
• Focuses on updating coding skills and knowledge by participating in coding team meetings and educational conferences
• Extensive knowledge of coding principles and guidelines.
• Extensive knowledge of hospital/technical and professional services reimbursement systems.
• Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and payer-specific regulations and policies pertaining to documentation, coding, and billing for professional and technical services.
