Job summary

Thermax Limited is seeking a senior design engineering lead for Renewable Energy projects (solar PV, wind and BESS) from concept to commissioning. You will drive technical design, risk analysis, and vendor development, coordinating with EPCs, regulators and customers across a grid-connected portfolio.

The role demands deep knowledge of solar PV and energy storage systems, with hands-on experience in BOM, IFC drawings, and cost optimization for utility-scale deployments.

Qualifications

• Experience across the full life cycle of design for solar PV, wind, and storage systems.
• Familiar with solar PV products and utility grid architecture.
• Leading development of vendors and suppliers for civil, electrical, mechanical and power evacuation systems.
• Knowledge of local rules and regulations for power generation and evacuation.
• Review of design against national/international standards and best practices.
• Experience in coordinating data/resources with agencies and implementing observations in design.
• Lead in validating and releasing GFC/IFC drawings.
• Expertise in layout finalization, modeling, and routing details.
• Interfacing between engineering consultants and EPC.
• Knowledge of IEC, Indian and other standards (NFPA, NEC, IEEE).

Responsibilities

• Design & engineering for Renewable Energy projects from concept to commissioning.
• Conduct due diligence, design risk analysis and mitigation for RE projects.

• Drive cost leadership through design optimization and vendor development.
• Support costing for utility-scale projects.
• Liaise with EPCs, consultants and regulators on technical requirements.
• Develop processes and procedures for RE project engineering.
• Interact with customers, project management, installation, commissioning teams and contractors.
• Provide feedback to management on key project issues.

Job description

• Primarily responsible for the Design & Engineering Function of Renewable Energy (solar PV, wind and BESS) project design from concept to commissioning.
• Carry out due diligence, Design Risk Analysis & mitigation plan for RE projects.
• Lead and oversee site evaluation, energy predictions, site survey, design & optimization, of complete plant layout.
• Oversee energy yield analysis and data analysis, measurement campaigns and power generation & Losses.
• Technical evaluation, selection & comparison of components and key equipment (Module, Inverter, Cable, Mounting Structure, BOS for utility scale solar PV, wind and BESS power plants.
• Lead the detailed designing (AC & DC resp.) of large Scale, Grid connected RE Power Plants.
• Finalizing Bill of Materials and issuing technical specifications for major components to complete support procurement and construction of RE projects.
• Achieving cost leadership through design optimization and vendor development for designed BOM.
• Leading estimation & supporting costing for Utility Scale project.
• Providing technical support to BD for Pre-bid /proposal stage.
• Liaise with other departments as well as with EPC’s, Consultants and regulating authorities regarding technical requirement/issues.
• Team development, Managing and training to team and clients as per requirements.
• To develop & strengthen Process, Engineering Systems and procedures for –all types of RE projects.
• Interaction with Customer, Project Management Team, Installation & Commissioning team and Contractors for successful completion of the project.
• Providing feedback on key project issues to Department, Management team on a timely basis.

Required Skills

• Familiar and experienced with entire life cycle of project design for solar PV, wind and energy storage systems
• In depth knowledge of solar PV products and utility grid architecture
• Leading development of vendors and suppliers for civil, electrical, mechanical and power evacuation systems.
• Should have good knowledge of local prevalent rules and regulation for power generation and evacuation.
• Review of design based on national, International standards and good engineering practices.
• Experience in collating data and other resources through co-ordination with different agencies and implementing the observations in Design.
• Taking Lead in validating and releasing GFC/ IFC (good/issued for construction) drawings
• Expertise in layout finalization, Modeling, capacity fixing of utilities, routing and other details.
• Interfacing between Engineering consultant and EPC
• Knowledge of IEC, INDIAN & and other standards e.g NFPA,NEC,IEEE, etc
• Experience in design reviews and risk studies.

Techno commercial Operations Skills

• Should be involved in preparing technical SOW/ DOR/proposals, along with handling contract & documentation.
• Interfacing between EPC/OEM and internal projects team, for facilitating technical requirement for capturing, building out specifications & scoping of projects.
• Overseeing and verifying the preparation of RFQ for various utilities and equipment supplies.
• Supporting the Supply Chain team with facilitating smooth order execution right from quotation; Ordering, follow up, execution, billing and contract closing.

Erection and Commissioning Skills

• Experience in preparing pre-startup requirement of the system considering all aspects like Standard operating procedure, preparation, review & commissioning of RE projects
• Understand installation, erection and commissioning of equipment, providing support to the construction team during execution till commissioning.
• Foreseeing bottlenecks and initiating corrective (engineering) measures to avoid reoccurrence.

Operational assessment

• Evaluates the performance of a renewable energy facility, identifying areas for improvement and quantifying potential gains
• Site breakdown assessment, RCA, Corrective action plan, Lessons learned implementation in future project.
• Solar projects yield analysis and Wind resource assessment
• Strong technical knowledge on Solar PV, Wind turbine technology, Evacuation infra 220kV and above
• Software proficiency – PV syst, Solargis, SAM, MS office, AutoCAD, ETAP
• Open, positive attitude, goal oriented & flexible.
