Job summary

Larsen & Toubro is seeking a senior engineer to lead the design and delivery of energy storage systems. The role emphasizes BESS expertise, battery/inverter integration, and performance optimization within an engineering/consulting environment.

The candidate will work with MATLAB, Simulink, ETAP and HOMER to analyze systems, perform tender reviews, and ensure safety and reliability across HV/MV interfaces. Chennai-based position with on-site responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Experience in energy storage design for solar/wind projects.
• Strong understanding of battery chemistry, duty cycling and performance metrics.
• Proven ability to deliver energy storage projects in engineering/consulting.
• Familiarity with system studies and DC/DC converter operation.
• Hands-on with MATLAB, Simulink and ETAP for design/analysis.
• Knowledge of battery/inverter integration with MV/HV substations.

Job description

• Should have working knowledge of energy storage using BESS, including but not limited to, battery chemistry, duty cycling and performance (like Round Trip efficiency, Cycle Life, etc.), design optimization for efficiency and reliability, battery safety and battery inverter systems.


• Proven project engineering and delivery experience of energy storage projects in an engineering or consulting environment


• Preference for candidates with experience of doing system studies.


• Familiarity with DC/DC converter operation.


• Should have knowledge in design of hybrid renewable energy systems like Solar PV, Wind Energy systems, Battery Storage, etc.


• Should have hands-on experience working on software like MATLAB Simulink & ETAP softwares.


• Should be competent in battery systems design, Inverter design, integration with MV/HV substation.


• Should have working knowledge on softwares like MATLAB Script / Simulink / Homer / ETAP. Good knowledge in understanding of Control logics and simulation.


• Knowledge in Panel architecture, Heat ventilation, Temperature rise calculation.


• Strong knowledge in Battery Inverter logics and its operation related to various modes of operation like VAR mode, PF mode etc.


• Should possess experience in performing Root cause analysis and as a solution provider.


• Develop ideas, effectively contribute to value engineering, and translate to cost optimized design, review to obtain best cost, best performance and reliability.


• Should have capability for preparation of technical specifications (including for tenders) and review tender responses.


• Conducting engineering reviews, quality assurance checks and approval of design drawings, reports and other deliverables.


• Provide quality advice and installation support where required during construction phase.


• Preparation of FAT specification, test plan and review and interpretation of test reports


• To be ensure full compliance with quality and H&S systems. Operate within the company’s Design Management procedures.


• The day-to-day coordination with allocated design teams including civil engineers, instrumentation engineers and CAD Technicians.


• Coordination of inputs being provided by other departments and external groups, such as survey/geotechnical, transport and environmental.


• Ensuring deliverables in agreed timelines and ensuring design meets all the client’s scoping requirements and compliance with technical specifications.


• Acting as a point of contact with the vendors/client (on need base) during the various design phases.

Software Skills Required

Qualification & Experience

• B.E. / B. Tech. in Electrical / Electrical & Electronics Engineering


• Minimum 10+ years of experience in the areas of Renewable Energy Systems like Solar PV, Battery Storage. Experience in Battery Energy Storage is must with minimum 5+ years.
