Persistent Systems is seeking a Senior GenAI/Agentic AI Engineer to design and optimize LLM-powered applications and AI-driven APIs. You will build scalable backend services using Node.js, TypeScript, Bun, and Express, and integrate with AWS cloud services.

Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior AI Platform Engineer / GenAI / Agentic AI engineer with expertise in backend engineering, Generative AI, and cloud-native application development. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing LLM-powered applications, intelligent workflows, and AI-driven APIs. This role requires strong experience in Node.js, TypeScript, AI SDKs, AWS cloud services, and modern software engineering practices to build scalable, secure, and compliant solutions that leverage Large Language Models and agentic AI capabilities.

What You’ll Do:

• Build and extend LLM-powered tool-calling pipelines for intelligent application workflows.
• Design, develop, and optimize prompt-based workflows involving intent detection, prompt normalization, decision-making, and response orchestration.
• Write, test, and refine LLM instructions and prompts using established evaluation frameworks and quality benchmarks.
• Develop and maintain high-performance HTTP APIs using Bun, Node.js, and Express.
• Build scalable backend services and integrate them with AI services, databases, and external microservices.
• Design and optimize SQL-driven data access layers using Drizzle ORM and AWS Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Deploy, monitor, and support cloud-native applications on AWS using GitHub Actions-based CI/CD pipelines.
• Manage containerized deployments and cloud infrastructure components across AWS environments.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools while maintaining engineering best practices, governance, and accountability.
• Ensure compliance, security, and governance controls for regulated and sensitive data environments.
• Collaborate with product managers, architects, data engineers, and frontend developers to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Contribute to Next.js / React applications when cross-functional development is required.
• Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, sprint planning, and technical design sessions.
• Troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve system reliability, performance, and scalability.

Expertise You’ll Bring:

• 8-12 years of experience in backend software development and cloud-native application engineering.
• Strong expertise in Node.js and TypeScript with experience building scalable enterprise applications.
• Hands-on experience with AI SDKs, OpenAI-compatible APIs, Chat Completions, function/tool calling, and agent frameworks.
• Strong understanding of LLM workflows, prompt engineering, prompt evaluation, and AI application architecture.
• Experience building, testing, and optimizing AI-powered applications and agentic workflows.
• Knowledge of Bun runtime and willingness to work with emerging backend technologies.
• Strong experience developing REST APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
• Expertise with AWS services and cloud-native deployment models.
• Experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker containers, ECR, ECS, and cloud deployment processes.
• Strong SQL skills with experience in PostgreSQL, Aurora PostgreSQL, and ORM technologies such as Drizzle ORM.
• Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks such as React and Next.js.
• Experience working with regulated data environments, compliance requirements, and security controls.
• Strong analytical, debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
