Job summary

LANXESS in India, Maharashtra seeks an experienced SAP MDG consultant to provide functional consulting across Business Partner, Customer, Supplier, and Material master data. The role supports over 2,000 users, ensuring stable MDG operations and coordinating cross-system alignment.

The candidate will translate business needs into MDG configurations, lead incident management, and develop training materials while supporting S/4HANA upgrades and related MDG solutions for global governance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or related analytical/technical field.
• 5–10 years of SAP MDG operations and/or functional consulting experience.
• Strong functional knowledge of SAP MDG for Material and Business Partner (Customer and Supplier).
• Advanced experience with SAP MDG on S/4HANA; exposure to ECC/legacy MDG environments.

Job Highlights

• Provide functional consulting and support for the global SAP MDG landscape covering Business Partner, Customer, Supplier and Material master data, supporting more than 2,000 users across BUs, GFs and legal entities.
• Ensure stable day-to-day MDG operations through application monitoring, workflow checks, IDoc/data-transfer monitoring, L1 incident resolution and L2 functional root-cause analysis, coordinating complex technical findings with the respective technical teams.
• Analyze business requirements and independently develop end-to-end functional solutions for MDG Change Requests, including requirement clarification, functional design/specifications, configuration, testing and consideration of cross-system impacts.
• Translate business requirements into appropriate MDG governance processes, workflows, validations, approval rules and functional configurations, ensuring alignment with global master-data governance standards.
• Lead functional incident and problem management, including root-cause analysis, SLA adherence, recurring-problem identification and definition of preventive improvements rather than focusing only on ticket closure.
• Design, maintain and deliver global MDG training and user-enablement content, including live training, key-user enablement, SOPs, business-process documentation, Knowledge Base and MediaWiki content.
• Support S/4HANA upgrades, migrations and connected MDG solutions such as PAW and DUCC, including functional impact analysis, testing, validation and cross-system alignment.
• Continuously expand MDG functional capabilities, documentation maturity and knowledge transfer to strengthen internal expertise and support the long-term sustainability of global MDG operations.

Experience / Skills

• Must-have (Specific Education) Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related analytical/technical discipline.
• Must-have (Work Experience) 5-10 years of experience in SAP MDG operations and/or functional consulting, preferably within global and complex SAP environments.
• Must-have (Functional Expertise) Strong functional knowledge of SAP MDG processes for Material and Business Partner, including Customer and Supplier, and understanding of how master data supports ERP business processes.
• Must-have (SAP Knowledge) Advanced experience with SAP MDG on S/4HANA, with exposure to ECC/legacy MDG environments and working knowledge of relevant SAP MM and SD processes.
• Proven capability in L1/L2 incident management, functional root-cause analysis, workflow/application monitoring, IDoc/data-transfer monitoring and problem management.
• Experience in translating business requirements into MDG functional solutions, configurations, functional specifications, governance rules, validations, workflows and testing scenarios.
• Strong documentation, training and knowledge-transfer capabilities, including preparation and maintenance of SOPs, process documentation, Knowledge Base/cookbook content and user training material.
• Strong analytical, communication and consulting skills with the ability to work independently and act as a bridge between Business, Data Governance, IT and global stakeholders.
