Emerson seeks an experienced embedded firmware engineer specializing in FPGA-based motion control systems. You will develop deterministic, safety-compliant firmware for high-performance servo drives and robotics, working with real-time control loops and industrial protocols.
You will collaborate with hardware teams, review RTL, optimize algorithms, and mentor junior engineers while adhering to IEC 61508/ISO 13849 safety practices and rigorous coding standards.
Develop and implement FPGA/processor firmware for high-performance motion control systems.
Contribute to firmware architecture, FPGA partitioning, and real-time control implementation under the guidance of technical leads/ Architect.
Design, develop, and review RTL modules using VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
Implement high-speed PWM generation, current control loops, and encoder/resolver interfaces (BiSS, EnDat, SinCos).
Develop ADC/DAC acquisition logic, manage multi-clock domain designs, and support FPGA implementation using Vivado and/or Quartus tool flows.
Develop and optimize Field-Oriented Control (FOC), torque, speed, and position control algorithms, along with trajectory planning and motion profiling.
Optimize fixed-point arithmetic and firmware performance to achieve deterministic real-time control.
Develop and integrate FPGA-based industrial communication interfaces such as IO-Link , EtherCAT, PROFINET, CANopen etc.
Implement and verify firmware safety features in compliance with functional safety requirements (IEC 61508, ISO 13849), including mechanisms such as Safe Torque Off (STO) and fault detection.
Collaborate with hardware engineers on current sensing, gate drivers, ADC timing, PCB bring-up, and EMI/EMC considerations.
Support board bring-up, debugging, system integration, validation, and performance optimization.
Participate in firmware architecture discussions, technical reviews, and code reviews to ensure high-quality deliverables.
Follow and promote firmware development standards, coding guidelines, and engineering best practices.
Mentor junior engineers, provide technical guidance, and support knowledge sharing within the team.
