They verify that fire exits and evacuation routes remain clear and accessible at all times, and ensure compliance with local fire codes and building safety regulations.Emergency Preparedness: Developing and implementing comprehensive emergency response plans is a critical function. This includes organizing and conducting fire drills for mall staff and tenants, coordinating with local fire departments and emergency services, and maintaining updated emergency contact lists and evacuation procedures.Training and Education: The officer conducts fire safety training sessions for mall employees and tenant staff, educates stakeholders on proper use of fire fighting equipment, and promotes fire safety awareness through signage, campaigns, and regular communications.Documentation and Compliance: Maintaining detailed records of all fire safety inspections, drills, incidents, and equipment maintenance is essential. The role involves preparing reports for management and regulatory authorities, ensuring permits and certifications remain current, and conducting risk assessments to identify potential fire hazards.Incident Management: When incidents occur, the officer responds to fire alarms and emergency situations, coordinates evacuation procedures if necessary, investigates fire safety incidents to determine causes, and implements corrective actions to prevent recurrence.Equipment Management: Overseeing the maintenance schedule for all fire safety equipment, coordinating with vendors for servicing and repairs, and ensuring adequate stock of firefighting supplies and safety equipment are ongoing responsibilities.QualificationsEducation: Diploma or degree in Fire and Safety Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, or related field. Professional certifications such as NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate or equivalent are highly desirable.Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in fire safety management, preferably in retail, commercial properties, or mall environments.Skills: Strong knowledge of fire safety codes and regulations, excellent communication and training abilities, crisis management and decision-making skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.Working ConditionsThe position typically requires presence during mall operating hours, including weekends and holidays, with readiness for emergency response 24/7.
