Job summary

Hirekey Consultancy is seeking a Financial Controller to own the books for the company and group entities. The role reports to the CFO and requires CA qualification with 7–8 years post-qualification experience in accounting, financial control, and F&A operations.

You will lead audits, manage tax compliances, and drive project cost accounting in an EPC environment, while strengthening controls and ERP-based processes across locations.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA).
  • 7–8 years of post-qualification experience in accounting, financial control, and F&A operations.
  • Strong hands-on experience independently closing books of accounts.
  • Proven experience managing statutory audits in a medium/large organisation.
  • Experience in EPC, infrastructure, construction, or a similar project-based industry is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Own the books of accounts for the company and all group entities/SPVs and ensure timely closure.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing and finalise standalone and consolidated financial statements per Ind AS.
  • Manage statutory, internal, and tax audits from planning through closure.
  • Oversee GST, TDS, Income Tax, assessments, and other direct/indirect tax compliances; multi-state GST exposure.
  • Oversee billing, receivables, payables, payroll accounting, and vendor reconciliations; monitor cash flows and DSO.
  • Prepare monthly MIS packs for senior management and support lenders/rating agencies.
  • Strengthen internal controls and ensure ERP-based accounting across locations.

Financial Controller – Job Description

Position: Financial Controller Department: Finance & Accounts Reporting To: CFO Qualification: Chartered Accountant (CA) Industry Preference: EPC / Infrastructure / Construction

Position Purpose

The Financial Controller will take complete ownership of the books of accounts and day-to-day Finance & Accounts operations of the company and its group entities/SPVs. The role will report to the CFO and work closely with the CEO and Managing Director through MIS, financial reviews, and audit outcomes.

The role will serve as the control backbone of the finance function, ensuring accurate reporting, strong financial controls, timely compliance, and disciplined working-capital management as the company scales.

Key Responsibilities

1. Books of Accounts & Financial Closing

  • Own the books of accounts for the company and all group entities/SPVs.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely closure of accounts.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing.
  • Finalise standalone and consolidated financial statements as per Ind AS.
  • Manage project cost accounting and WIP recognition in line with EPC revenue-recognition requirements.

2. Audit & Compliance

  • Manage statutory, internal, and tax audits from planning through closure.
  • Ensure clean and timely audit outcomes.
  • Oversee GST, TDS, Income Tax, assessments, and other direct/indirect tax compliances.
  • Manage multi-state GST compliance, particularly for EPC operations.
  • Coordinate ROC/secretarial compliances and maintain the compliance calendar.

3. Finance & Accounting Operations

  • Oversee billing, receivables, payables, payroll accounting, and vendor reconciliations.
  • Manage the EPC client certification-to-collection cycle and drive DSO reduction.
  • Monitor project-wise cash flows and working capital.
  • Strengthen internal financial controls and delegation of authority.
  • Ensure disciplined ERP-based accounting and financial processes using FCA ERP.

4. MIS & Management Reporting

  • Own and deliver the monthly MIS pack for the CFO, CEO, and MD.
  • Prepare project-wise profitability reports.
  • Track budget vs. actual performance.
  • Monitor receivables ageing and collections.
  • Prepare cash-flow forecasts and working-capital reports.
  • Support the CFO and corporate finance team with financial information required by lenders and rating agencies.

5. Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Accounts & Finance team across the head office and project sites.
  • Establish clear processes, accountability, and performance standards.
  • Build a strong control-oriented finance culture across locations.
Candidate Profile

Mandatory Requirements

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA).
  • 7–8 years of post-qualification experience in accounting, financial control, and F&A operations.
  • Strong hands-on experience independently closing books of accounts.
  • Proven experience managing statutory audits in a medium/large organisation.
  • Experience in EPC, infrastructure, construction, or a similar project-based industry is highly preferred.

Preferred Experience

  • EPC/project accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of WIP and project cost accounting.
  • Experience with retention money and BG margin accounting.
  • Multi-state GST exposure.
  • Experience working with ERP-driven accounting environments.
  • Experience in a promoter-led or fast-growing mid-sized organisation.
  • Exposure to lender/rating-agency reporting will be an advantage.
