Job description

Job Description: Manager – Finance MIS & Business Performance

Company: Kisah Apparels Private Limited

Function: Finance

Location: Kolkata

Reporting to: Head of Finance / CFO

Experience: 5–8 years

Industry preference: Fashion, apparel, retail, e-commerce, FMCG or other inventory-led consumer businesses

Role purpose

The Manager – Finance MIS & Business Performance will own Kisah’s management reporting, financial analysis, budgeting and performance review processes.

The role is expected to go beyond compiling reports. The incumbent must be able to connect financial outcomes with operating drivers – sales, gross margin, discounts, returns, marketing spend, inventory, channel commissions, fulfilment costs and working capital and clearly explain:

  • What happened?
  • Why did it happen?
  • What is likely to happen next?
  • What corrective action should management take?

The person will work closely with Finance, Marketplace, D2C, Retail, Marketing, Supply Chain, Merchandising and Production teams to establish a reliable, decision-oriented financial performance system.

Key responsibilities
1. Management reporting and financial MIS
  • Own the preparation and timely circulation of daily, weekly and monthly management reports.
  • Prepare monthly P&L, balance sheet and cash-flow analysis, including comparison against budgets/forecasts.
  • Develop channel-wise, business-unit-wise and category-wise profitability reporting.
  • Ensure that MIS numbers reconcile with the books of account and approved operating data.
  • Maintain a single, controlled definition for important business and financial metrics.
  • Prepare concise management commentary identifying key movements, exceptions, risks and recommended actions.
  • Support monthly business reviews, leadership meetings and Board reporting.
2. Revenue and channel profitability

Analyse financial performance across:

  • Marketplaces such as Myntra, Ajio, Amazon, Flipkart and other platforms;
  • Shopify/D2C;
  • Offline retail stores;
  • B2B, SOR and other distribution arrangements.

The analysis should cover:

  • Gross sales, cancellations, returns, taxes and net revenue;
  • Gross margin and contribution margin;
  • Discounts, marketplace commissions and platform charges;
  • Performance-marketing expenditure;
  • Logistics, packaging, fulfilment and reverse-logistics costs;
  • Payment-gateway, COD and technology costs;
  • Store-level operating expenses;
  • Channel-, category-, style- and SKU-level profitability.

Establish clear contribution-margin bridges from gross sales → net revenue → gross margin → contribution margin → EBITDA.

3. Budgeting, forecasting and business planning
  • Coordinate the annual operating plan and departmental budgeting process.
  • Prepare monthly rolling forecasts for revenue, margin, expenses, working capital and cash flow.
  • Work with departmental heads to translate operational assumptions into financial plans.
  • Build scenario and sensitivity models for sales growth, discounting, return rates, advertising expenditure, inventory and gross margin.
  • Track actual performance against budget and forecast and drive closure of significant variances.
  • Evaluate the financial viability of new stores, marketplaces, collections, campaigns and other business initiatives.
4. Variance and business-driver analysis
  • Analyse price, volume, product-mix, discount and cost variances.
  • Identify the operational reasons behind revenue, margin and expense movements.
  • Track marketing efficiency, inventory productivity, returns, channel deductions and fulfilment costs.
  • Distinguish timing differences from structural performance issues.
  • Convert analysis into clear actions, owners and timelines for business teams.
  • Develop early-warning indicators for margin erosion, cost overruns, slow-moving inventory and working-capital pressure.
5. Inventory and working-capital MIS
  • Prepare inventory reporting by SKU, category, ageing bucket, location and sales channel.
  • Analyse inventory turns, sell-through, ageing, stock cover, markdown exposure and provision requirements.
  • Reconcile inventory across ERP, OMS/WMS, warehouses, marketplaces and retail stores.
  • Track receivables, payables, marketplace settlements, vendor advances and cash-conversion cycle.
  • Highlight blocked capital, slow-moving inventory and overdue recoveries.
  • Support Finance and business teams in improving inventory productivity and cash conversion.
6. Financial controls and data integrity
  • Establish maker-checker controls and audit trails for all material MIS reports.
  • Reconcile MIS data with the general ledger, sales systems, inventory systems, bank/settlement data and operational reports.
  • Identify reporting gaps, inconsistent definitions and data-quality issues and ensure their resolution.
  • Support month-end closure by providing required schedules, reconciliations and analytical reviews.
  • Review Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP) balances and ageing during month-end and quarter-end closures, ensuring accuracy and timely follow-up on outstanding items.
  • Coordinate and monitor timely closure of books of account each month and quarter, working with Finance and business teams to ensure adherence to closure timelines.
  • Ensure consistent application of accounting policies, revenue recognition principles, inventory valuation methods and expense classifications.
  • Support statutory audit, internal audit and management audit requirements relating to MIS and financial analysis.
