Job summary

Emergent Labs in Bengaluru, India, seeks a Chartered Accountant to lead finance operations for India and US entities, including AP/AR, treasury, and compliance, ensuring timely payments and accurate reporting.

You will build processes, controls, and automation to move money fast while maintaining discipline, manage banking relationships, GST/TDS, and cross-border payments, and partner with business teams.

Qualifications

• Chartered Accountant with 5–7 years post-qualification experience, preferably in a startup or high-growth company.
• Hands-on experience with AP/AR, month-end closes, reconciliations and vendor management.
• Knowledge of GST, TDS, FEMA and cross-border payments in India.
• Experience with banking, treasury and forex operations and multi-currency payments.
• Proficiency with ERP systems and spend/P2P tools; strong Excel/Google Sheets skills.
• Solid understanding of internal controls and fraud risk mitigation.

Responsibilities

• Run end-to-end accounts payable and accounts receivable, vendor onboarding, and three-way matching.
• Own month-end close, reconciliations, and treasury functions across India and US entities.
• Manage banking relationships, forex, inter-entity funding and cross-border remittances.
• Ensure GST, TDS compliance, and regulatory reporting; coordinate with US advisors on tax.

The Role

This is a high-ownership finance role that keeps the company running day to day. You will leadour finance operations function and own how money moves through Emergent: what we collect,what we pay, where the cash sits and whether every statutory deadline is met, across our Indiaand US entities. You'll be the first point of contact for internal teams on payments, vendors,reimbursements and approvals, and you will work closely with the Business and BusinessFinance. This is not a back-office seat. You will be expected to own AP, AR, treasury andcompliance, build the processes, controls and automation that let finance move fast withoutlosing discipline, and to spot risks before they become problems.

What You'll Do

• Run accounts payable end to end: vendor onboarding and KYC, PR/PO and approval workflows, invoice validation, three-way matching, payment runs and vendor reconciliations.
• Manage employee reimbursements, corporate cards and software and subscriptionspend, and enforce the expense policy and approval matrix.
• Own invoicing, collections and receipts across entities, including enterprise and partnerbilling, and report on ageing, disputes and collection performance.
• Reconcile payment gateway and platform settlements against transactions, fees, refundsand chargebacks, and follow up on exceptions.
• Track daily cash positions across entities, currencies and bank accounts, produce daily& monthly cash and burn reports to the Management.
• Manage banking relationships, including account opening, signatory mandates, limits,forex and payment arrangements.
• Manage FX conversions, inter-entity funding and cross-border remittances, includingdocumentation such as Form 15CA/15CB and FIRC, in line with FEMA requirements.
• Own India statutory compliance execution: GST (including e-invoicing, returns andreconciliations, and export of services and refund claims where applicable), TDSdeduction, deposit and quarterly returns, PF/ESI and professional tax.
• Coordinate US compliance items such as state registrations, sales tax and vendor taxforms with US advisors.
• Track vendor payment timelines, including MSME payment requirements, and managevendor contracts, renewals and commitments with business.
• Coordinate payroll inputs and payment of salaries, contractors and freelancers, andrelated statutory deductions.
• Act as the single point of contact for internal business teams on payments, vendorqueries, reimbursements and approvals, with clear turnaround times.
• Build controls that catch duplicate payments, unusual vendor activity and cost leakagebefore money leaves the bank, and flag exceptions proactively.
• Provide supporting documents and schedules for audits, tax assessments andfundraising diligence.
• Drive automation and process improvement in procure-to-pay, collections andreconciliations.
• Document SOPs and guide and review the work of a team as volumes grow.

What We’re Looking For

• Chartered Accountant with 5-7 years of post-qualification experience, with a significantpart in a startup or high-growth company.
• Strong hands-on experience running AP, AR and month-end operational closes,including reconciliations and vendor management.
• Working knowledge of GST, TDS, FEMA and cross-border payment compliance in India.
• Experience with bank, treasury and forex operations, including multi-currency payments.
• Experience with ERP and accounting systems, and with spend or P2P tools, along withstrong Excel/Google Sheets skills.
• Strong understanding of internal controls, approval workflows and fraud and duplicate-payment risks.
• Strong communication and a service mindset, with the ability to say no to internal teamsclearly and politely.
• High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-pacedenvironment.
• Self-starter who takes ownership with minimal direction and is comfortable with ambiguity and frequent change.

Preferred

• Experience at a SaaS, consumer subscription, or high-growth technology company;exposure to usage-based or credit-based pricing models
• Experience supporting fundraising or working across India and US entities.
• Hands-on experience with AI tools such as Claude, Gemini or ChatGPT in day-to-dayfinance work
