Summary of the role
A Finance specialist role that supports both the commercial and operational sides of the business. The role works closely with Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Procurement and R&D to turn financial and operational data into clear insights for decision-making. It covers revenue and margin analysis, budgeting and forecasting, product costing, inventory, operating costs, capital expenditure, compliance, reporting and process improvement. The position reports directly to the Finance Director.
Responsibilities
- Analyse revenue, margins and profitability by business segment and growth area. Monitor performance against budget and forecast, prepare management reports with short- and long-term scenarios, and provide clear recommendations.
- Work with the receivables and credit teams where their input affects revenue reporting and commercial decisions.
- Lead monthly product costing and inventory accounting, including weighted average costing, valuation, provisions and reconciliations.
- Analyse manufacturing, warehouse, transportation and other operating costs. Investigate variances and work with relevant functions to identify practical actions that improve efficiency and support commercial and operational decisions.
- Manage capital expenditure, including review of investment proposals and business cases, tracking of project spend, capitalisation, reporting and the related financial controls.
- Maintain reliable financial data in ERP and business‑intelligence systems, govern sales‑incentive calculations and support cost, statutory, internal and group audits with schedules and analysis. Drive process improvements to strengthen controls, reporting quality and efficiency.
Qualifications
Masters degree in Finance or another relevant discipline.
Qualified Chartered Accountant or Cost Accountant is an advantage.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in manufacturing or plant finance, product costing, commercial controlling, audit or financial reporting.
- Sound knowledge of revenue and margin analysis, budgeting and forecasting, month-end closing, inventory, product costing, fixed assets, capital expenditure and internal controls.
- Hands‑on experience with an ERP system such as SAP or equivalent, business‑intelligence tools and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with macros, Hyperion, automation or process improvement is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder‑management skills, with the ability to work independently and explain financial matters clearly to non‑finance colleagues.
