Paras Defence & Space Technologies seeks an engineer to lead platform integration of stabilized EO/IR sights on host platforms, focusing on mechanical/electrical interfaces, power and video outputs, and MIL-STD-1553/RS-422 control.
The role covers optical alignment, boresight calibration, field trials support, diagnostics, and maintenance, including documentation and customer training, across rugged defence environments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Platform Integration & On-Site Commissioning
- Lead mechanical and electrical integration of stabilized EO/IR sights onto host platforms (e.g., remote-controlled weapon stations, armoured fighting vehicles, mast mounts).
- Validate power distribution, video outputs (HD-SDI, Ethernet etc.), serial control lines (RS-422, CAN bus, MIL-STD-1553)
- Conduct platform-level checkouts and pre-trial verification before range testing
2. Optical Alignment & Boresight Calibration
- Perform high-precision multi-sensor harmonization and boresight calibration across visible (HD daylight), thermal (cooled/uncooled MWIR/LWIR), and laser channels (LRF).
- Set up optical collimators, blackbody targets, and alignment to verify Line of Sight (LOS) accuracy, parallax correction, and gimbal coordinate frames relative to weapon barrels
- Validate stabilization performance (LOS jitter, drift, tracking loop latency) under static and dynamic vehicle-motion profiles.
3. Field Trials & Firing Range Support
- Provide real-time engineering support during factory acceptance trials (FAT), field firing trials, user acceptance tests (UAT), and Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) campaigns.
- Monitor video feeds, tracking lock stability, thermal imager NUC (Non-Uniformity Correction) tables, and gimbal servo responses during weapon firing shock and high-vibration scenarios.
- Interface directly with military technical officers and test range crews to troubleshoot test anomalies and collect trial logs.
4. Troubleshooting, Maintenance & Repair
- Perform Line-Replaceable Unit (LRU) diagnostics down to sub-assembly levels (slip rings, servo motors, resolver/encoder modules, optical window assemblies, heater elements).
- Diagnose electronic board-level faults, video artifacts, communication packet drops, and thermal detector cooler degradations in ruggedized field environments.
- Carry out O-Level (Organizational) and I-Level (Intermediate) maintenance, including desiccant replacement, nitrogen purging/sealing integrity checks, and lens repolishing/cleaning per MIL-STD procedures.
5. Documentation & Training
- Deliver technical operator and maintenance training to customer technical staff and Defence operators (covering tracker tuning, reticule zeroing, and routine BIT diagnostics).
- Prepare detailed Field Service Reports (FSRs), Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) reports, and trial discrepancy logs for design and QA teams.
Technical Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of gyro stabilization (rate gyros, encoders, direct-drive BLDC/torque motors) and closed-loop motion control.
- Practical experience with thermal imaging systems, HD daylight cameras, and eye-safe Laser Rangefinders (LRFs).
- Familiarity with collimator-based testing, MTF evaluation, boresight, and optical alignment benches.
- Proficiency in communication protocols: RS-422, RS-232, Ethernet (TCP/IP, UDP), CAN bus, and video formats (SMPTE-292M / HD-SDI, analog, RTSP streaming).
- Tools & Test Equipment: Competence with digital oscilloscopes, multi-meters, serial bus analysers, optical collimators, blackbody sources, and field purging/dry nitrogen kits.
