Role overview
You will own how Edgeforce's electronics are designed, qualified and handed over to production.
Our UGV, RCWS and radar programmes are moving from one-off prototypes to repeatable product Families: common line-replaceable units (LRUs) across vehicle classes, costed bills of materials (BoM),
and field-ready builds assembled at Adibatla. You will set the architecture, decide what we build in-house and what we buy, and lead the team that delivers it. You stay close enough to the hardware to
review schematics and join field trials.
Key responsibilities
The role covers eight areas.
1. Architecture and product families
- Own the electrical and electronic architecture for small-, medium- and heavy-class UGVs and the RCWS, built on common LRUs (vehicle control unit, power distribution unit, switching and changeover units, I/O panel) with consistent dimensions across classes.
- Decide what to design in-house and what to buy as bought-out units; qualify and manage those suppliers.
2. Power and energy systems
- Specify, source and qualify battery packs, chargers, DC-DC converters and protection circuits, from 14.8 V ground-station packs to 48 V vehicle packs above 300 Ah.
- Run vendor RFQs and technical reviews against the statement of requirements: voltage, temperature range, lifting provisions and connectors.
3. Embedded, control and autonomy
- Lead embedded hardware and firmware for vehicle control, motor drives, sensor integration and closed-loop autonomy (wheel encoders, IMU, GNSS-INS, LiDAR, cameras).
- Integrate edge-AI computers (NVIDIA Jetson Orin class) within power, thermal and interface limits.
- Own the RCWS electronics: stabilisation unit, motor and driver, fibre-optic link, wiring harness and control boards.
4. Qualification and compliance
- Plan and run EMI/EMC (MIL-STD-461G) and environmental (MIL-STD-810H) testing, plus ingress, vibration and thermal tests.
- Map the approvals and certifications each product needs for defence and aerospace customers.
5. Costing, BoM and industrialisation
- Maintain costed BoMs and lead‑time estimates for every LRU, each line backed by a written vendor quotation.
- Hand designs to production at Adibatla with released drawings, harness definitions, test procedures and acceptance criteria.
6. Delivery and customer interface
- Own R&D schedules and sprint reviews across the UGV, RCWS and radar projects.
- Lead technical design reviews, demonstrations and field trials with customer engineering teams.
7. Team, tools and IP
- Lead, hire and mentor engineers across electronics, embedded, RF, robotics and systems engineering.
- Standardise EDA, simulation and test tooling.
- Align the technical roadmap with company revenue targets and protect IP through design documentation, NDAs and patent filings.
Required technical expertise
Candidates must show hands‑on depth in most of the areas below.
- Power and motor control: brushless DC (BLDC) and PMSM drives, high-current PCB design, Li‑ion (NMC and LFP) pack and BMS integration, DC‑DC conversion and protection circuits.
- Embedded systems: ARM Cortex‑M/R/A, RTOS (FreeRTOS, QNX), CAN‑Bus, RS‑422/485 and Ethernet.
- Control and sensing: PID tuning, Kalman filtering and sensor fusion (IMU, LiDAR, GPS/GNSS‑INS) for rough‑terrain navigation; encoder‑based closed‑loop control.
- Edge compute: integration of NVIDIA Jetson Orin and AGX Orin class computers into rugged enclosures.
- Design tools: Altium Designer, MATLAB/Simulink, PSpice.
- Standards: MIL‑STD‑461G (EMI/EMC), MIL‑STD‑810H (environmental), and IP‑rated enclosure design with the mechanical team.
- Preferred: RF, radar or DSP exposure; Pixhawk‑based vehicle controllers; wiring‑harness and connector design for vehicles.
Qualifications and experience
We need 8+ years of R&D experience, with at least 3 years leading engineers in defence, aerospace or robotics.
Must have
- B.Tech or M.Tech in Electrical, Electronics & Communication, or Mechatronics from a premier institute.
- Proven record of taking a complex electronic product from TRL‑4 (lab validation) to TRL‑9 (deployment).
- Experience with customer design reviews, acceptance tests or field trials for unmanned or vehicle‑mounted systems.
- Willingness to work on‑site in Hyderabad and travel regularly to Adibatla and customer sites.
Preferred
- Direct development experience on UGVs, UAVs/drones, remote weapon stations or radar.
- Experience setting up or running a test lab, such as EMI pre‑compliance, battery testing or hardware‑in‑the‑loop.
- Patents or other documented IP.
- A "Make in India" mindset: at ease in an agile, start‑up environment while respecting the precision that national security work demands.
