Job summary

Avalon Software Services is seeking a Fibre Optic Network Engineer for an on-site Chennai position. The role demands 6–10 years of hands-on experience designing, deploying and maintaining fibre optic networks, including FTTH/FTTx and ODN.

You will handle splicing, testing, and troubleshooting with OTDR and optical testing equipment, while coordinating with field teams and customers to ensure quality and timely delivery. Chennai on-site with immediate notice preferred.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of hands-on fibre network engineering experience.
• Experience with FTTH/FTTx, ODN, backbone networks.
• Knowledge of GPON/XGS-PON and fibre types (single/multi-mode).
• Hands-on with OTDR and optical testing equipment.
• Fibre splicing and termination expertise.
• Basic networking knowledge: Ethernet, TCP/IP, VLANs.
• Ability to read fibre route maps and network topology.
• Fibre documentation in AutoCAD/GIS preferred.
• Exposure to DWDM/OTN/SDH is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, configure, test, and maintain fibre optic network infrastructure.
• Handle fibre splicing, termination, patching, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Work on FTTH/FTTx, ODN, backbone, and metro fibre networks.
• Perform OTDR, Optical Power Meter, and Optical Loss testing.
• Troubleshoot fibre breaks, attenuation, signal loss, and connectivity issues.
• Prepare and maintain fibre route maps, network diagrams, and as-built documentation.
• Perform link budget and optical loss calculations.
• Coordinate with field teams, vendors, contractors, and customers for deployment.
• Troubleshoot ODF, FDB, FDT, splitters, patch panels, and optical equipment.
• Support preventive maintenance, network upgrades, expansion, and restoration activities.
• Ensure compliance with network quality, safety, and operational standards.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of Fibre Optic Networks and Optical Transmission.
• Hands-on experience with Single Mode and Multi Mode fibre.
• Good knowledge of GPON, XGS-PON, FTTH/FTTx, and ODN.
• Hands-on experience with OTDR and optical testing equipment.
• Strong knowledge of fibre splicing and termination.
• Basic knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP, VLANs, and networking.
• Ability to understand fibre route maps and network topology.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD/GIS-based fibre documentation is preferred.
• Exposure to DWDM/OTN/SDH is an added advantage.

Preferred Background

• Experience in Telecom, ISP, Data Centre, or Enterprise Network environments.
• Relevant Fibre Optics / Telecom / Networking certification is a plus.
