A compelling opportunity has emerged at a national hub for theoretical science: IMSc is inviting applications for regular faculty positions across its core research groups—Theoretical Physics, Mathematics, Theoretical Computer Science, and Computational Biology. This appointment is part of a direct recruitment initiative to fill 15 faculty vacancies at the Fellow E, Reader F, Professor G, and Professor H levels.

The Institute, supported by the Department of Atomic Energy (Government of India) and partially by the Tamil Nadu Government, is renowned for internationally recognized research. Eligibility Criteria

• Educational qualification : Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics, Mathematics, Theoretical Computer Science, Computational Biology, or closely allied fields.
• Experience :
  • Fellow E: Ph.D. (no minimum post-Ph.D. experience required)
  • Reader F: Ph.D. + at least 5 years of post-Ph.D. experience
  • Professor G: Ph.D. + at least 10 years of post-Ph.D. experience
  • Professor H: Ph.D. + at least 15 years of post-Ph.D. experience
• Appointment level is determined by the quality of research and academic profile of the candidate.

Required Expertise & Skills

• A strong and sustained research record in one of the core disciplines (Theoretical Physics, Mathematics, Theoretical Computer Science, Computational Biology).
• For higher-level positions, a substantial track record of research experience and scholarly impact.
• Ability to mentor graduate students, deliver graduate-level teaching, and contribute to the Institute’s outreach and scholarly activities.
• Evidence of inclusive and collaborative engagement is valued—the Institute encourages applications from women and underrepresented groups.

Salary Details Remuneration follows Central Government pay scales and allowances as per the 7th Pay Commission. Tentative pay levels are:

• Fellow E: Pay level 12
• Reader F: Pay level 13
• Professor G: Pay level 13A
• Professor H: Pay level 14

When on-campus housing is unavailable, House Rent Allowance (HRA) is provided in lieu, along with other standard Central Government benefits.
